Kikizo - Battlefield Heroes/Bad Company Interviews

The guys over at Kikizo recently got the chance to interview both Ben Cousins and Jamie Keen of DICE regarding Battlefield Heroes and Battlefield: Bad Company. Take a look:
Kikizo: And you can't play offline, right?

Cousins: No. Well, there's a tutorial which you can play offline. We really want to give people the option to kind of mess around and experiment in the game world and we offer one of the maps up with some kind of tutorial text and all the weapons and vehicles that you can experiment with, but it's focused on being online-only. Kikizo: We've talked a lot about the multiplayer side. Can you give us an update on the singleplayer?

Keen: As I mentioned in the presentation earlier on today, the big change for the singleplayer is that there is a singleplayer, a genuine singleplayer experience that is based around characters, it's based around story, it's got a definite cinematic element to it, and we really want to try to leverage those kind of things into giving it more of an irreverent type feel. It's got a certain dark humour to it as well. It's perhaps not taking itself quite as seriously as some military FPSs out there, without wanting to make light of war. If anything, that's what we are aiming for, the lighter side of war, if there is such a thing. Read more...

Keen: "It's perhaps not taking itself quite as seriously as some military FPSs out there, without wanting to make light of war."

Is that a fancy way of saying it's just like the Battlefield series we are already aware of?

Dark humor- Not serious, but dark, yet light. Good luck with that.

"When it comes out for release it's just going to be Gold Rush, but then once we've finished final-iz-ing the game and getting everything in the box, we're going to move the dev team over to actually start working on Conquest then. So we don't have any set date for it, but it's going to be forthcoming definitely. "

Typical move. Everybody is doing it. Release part of the game now and the rest can wait for later. Who cares what it's like out of the box...really?

"You can't mess consumers around that much these days. It's not necessarily that they're getting smarter but they're taking less crap."

Did EA stop sending you memos on how to do this? Because they are REALLY good at it.

What about a question like what did you learn from making BF2 and corrected in BC?

Or how will this game be supported after it's gold by way of patching after the addition of Conquest mode and other major features?

And will the Dice developers remain on board or will the teams be swapped to another team such as those [EDIT: who were originally] supporting BF2?

I actually know there is talent in that group. We have seen it in bits and pieces. I also think the game will be good. I predict scores from high 70s to upper 80's. Then again hell they are throwing around 90s even for games like Haze so what's it mean anyhow?
What I fear is that the support will dwindle down rapidly and really big issues will remain unchanged. Big issues that we are already familiar with first hand from previous incarnations of the BF2 franchise.
