Been there, done that for both forms of entertainment.

I was a Asteroids, Missile Command and Galaga fanatic... I wonder what that bodes for me? I know, I'm going to grow up to be like Luke Skywalker!

Hmmm, I wonder when that is going to kick-in? ... lol

main point i believe is dont let video games effect how you interact with the world/people around you
The point is the researchers believe these sorts of stimuli trigger something at the subconscious level; you can't command your subconscious to ignore something in your environment.

Damn thanks for saying that..... You can command your consious self to ignore something unless it does it itself(SHOCK). However your subconsious looks for patterns in consious activity, if it see those violent patterns more and more often then that type of behaviour will rise to the surface more often.

Oh no...... the conversation that this will open will surely make the forums admins work.....a ....lot......

I used to play lemmings on my mobile phone, every working morning and evening for around 2 years, commuting to work on a 2 hour train journey. I've not yet been impulsed to take a blow torch, burn through a wall and take a running leap into a pit of molten lava...

Originally, when BF2 came out, I played it way too much. The most shocking moment was when I found myself gazing at a beautiful sight (I think it was sunset) and subconsciously trying to find the "print screen" key to "take a picture".

There is something in the sky.... some kind of electric snake.

The only concern I think parents should have is obsessive gaming. If they are laying down the law like my parents if you stole a car that would be the least of your worries.

We're not talking about doing the things you see in the video games. Most of the people who play those games know that going around with a pistol and shooting random people on the street isn't something you should be doing. What the studies point to is that generally a person's behavior becomes more aggressive as they're exposed to more aggressive and violent behavior (See Shox's post on the subconscious patterns; he's got it spot on).

Believe me, I used to be an extremely timid person who avoided any type of conflict (verbal or otherwise) before I started playing FPS games. After playing those games for a while, I wasn't as afraid to engage in verbal and sometimes psycological confrontations.
