    Want to bet?

Check how much Black & White is being played?

Like I said, single moms and young girls. Im eager to see a few Spore minireview-posts and then its inactivity-death. Gaming history says so, unless youre a single mom, Big D?!

Black & White suffered greatly from it's lack of diversity. There were only so many stages, and very few if any mods worth playing.

I stopped playing it after about a half a year.

Black & White 2 was just a failure...

Of course. If we're comparing old titles with new revolutionary titles. Lets compare the 1992-1994 Darksun series to Baldur's Gate. hmm?

Here is BioWare's plan for copy protection:

"Mass Effect PC uses SecuROM which requires an online activation for the first time you play Mass Effect PC after installation. After the first activation, SecuROM requires that it re-check with the server within ten days in order to revalidate the CD key. If it can't contact the server before the 10 days are up, the game still runs and it will re-check until it is successful. If the check is not successfully performed within the 10 day period, Mass Effect will not run until an online check is successful."

Basically, this will punish paying customers while pirates merely circumvent the authentification process altogether (probably). The plan will also allow the game to be activated on 3 PCs at one time.

Mass Effect on the PC releases on May 27, 2008 and features an updated UI. Check out a Q&A on the copy protection at the BioWare Forums.

        Is authentification a real word?

Thats a hell of a lot of patience.

How about not. How about we take into consideration the overall decline in cultural values, literary education and the decline in the value of physical work?

If you know where Im getting at, youd know the meaning of the words "predictable", "stupid", "simple" and my favourite... "trendy".

Spore is going to be a meteorite, because the material is EAs money, and the atmosphere is Microsofts influence. But theres ground too. So expect sales, bright light and 7th place on Xfire list, and a decline from there. Some minireviewposts, someone screaming the word "awesome", Gamespot selling their virginity and either a sh!tload of EXP packs and sequels (like Sims) which sold like hell but noone you knew played it, or no EXP packs, no sequels, and people still wearing HALO Tshirts and raving about GTA4.

The thing that sold me on spore is that the content given to us, is only the beginning.

It does more than just encourage Modding - it practically makes it a part of the gameplay, which to a mod-fan like me... is heaven. I can imagine many modders out there are drooling over this game as well.

Thats a good reason to look forward to Spore, but hardly something revolutionary, unexpected, or something you wouldnt have, or dont have with many current games. Except that Spore may make it an easy process.

From where I come from, if its too easy, too simplified, then it usually doesnt have the capacity and richness to be a base to create something massive and superb. If someone says "mod", I think of "Jurassic Park" mod for Crysis.

Great mods come with hard work and combined talents of many people. I wish GSC would release an SP SDK, those fvckers are solely responsible for limiting one of the greatest modder pools of the Interwebs. Russkies and the likes have finally found a game they can completely tear apart and rebuild in gold, platinum and DD size boobies.

Whats revolutionary is the seemless way that every mod will be integrated.

Every planet that a person makes, will be up for download for another person's single player game. If a thousand people make twenty planets - each with their own different species, thats 20,000 extra planets and species added to an already huge game! Now imagine hundreds of thousands of people playing... if this game is ever as famous and popular as The Sims, Imagine MILLIONS of people playing.

Thats what makes it revolutionary. We're becoming modders, just by playing the game.

The possibilities are quite literally infinite merely by indirect modding from the community playing the game. It becomes even more infinite if they release the SDK program the moment the game itself is released to the public. Imagine spore's infinite universe x2 the moment a mod comes out.

Imagine that infinite universe x 50 if fifty mods come out... and etc, etc, etc...

The game's boundaries are being set in the same way that Civilization IV's boundaries are... meaning that there are very few hardcoded rules, and the modder's imagination will take precedence, limited only by the game engine's capabilities.

Simplicity in itself is a revolutionary idea, because it's so hard to do right.

Great mods also show great talent, and great talent goes on to become great developers. This is why modders should be praised, and why modern developers should be catering to them.

That is why Spore is going to be revolutionary. It's going to not only cater to the casual gamer... but to the hardcore modder as well.

Re: Mass Effect PC Copy Protection is Overkill

All I read out from it, is moddability within the game, which essentially isnt anything out of the ordinary. Its like cutting out 5 letters from a newspaper, rearranging the words and thinking its special. Its still the same 5 words, on printed on the same paper.

                  -

In even simplier terms- you cant paint Mona Lisa with just two colours.

Simplicity isnt revolutionary, if its the complexity that creates real art. Hence why people work hard to make great mods.

What youre so happy about, is nothing more than StarCraft minimaps-games, they are awesome fun, yes, but still StarCraft maps.

Congrats. You've officially denounced a game which hasn't even been released yet. You're the troll to my fanboy.

From one perspective, we cancel each others out.

From the other perspective, trolls are cooler than fanboys.

And from the third perspective, its better to look critically at things and be positively impressed, than to wait for something, build up the hope and then be negatively surprised.

Besides, Ive given you all the hints... Spore is not for everyone, but who likes it, will love it immensely and not be a worse person because of it.

But its definitely not going to be the next Minesweeper. Were too far into space age, to be impressed by simplicity. At least those of us who treat gaming just a tad bit more seriously, than 2 hours a month, when the wife and kids arent looking...

                        Ultima Online...
                        Age of Empires II...
                        Baldur's Gate...
                        Civilization III...
                        Dark Age of Camelot...
                        Neverwinter Nights...
                        Civilization IV...
                        Sins of a Solar Empire...

I must have magical foresight or something. Each of those games I've waited on the upwards of years if not more to play... and I haven't been disappointed yet.

Maybe I can see past the publisher-ball-polishing fluff, and the unfounded criticism from trolls to see the possibility of a genre making hit.

I don't just get my hopes up for just any game. It takes magic to make my eyes sparkle and shine.

I do? I figured this thread and its title was clue enough! Ive been waiting for Mass Effect for a year now. Not to mention MGS titles, and both RE Outbreak/Online titles, and dozens of other titles.

I just dont speak about all of them, just the ones topics about.

Who said I was feeling special? As for "everyone". There are 4 titles people generally didnt have negative expectations about, and Im willing to bet you didnt know jack about RE4.

                                Sit down, please.
