BF:BC Interview Hints at Battlefield 3

Eurogamer.de have posted an interview with Battlefield: Bad Company Senior Producer, Karl Magnus Troedsson. The conversation revolves around BF:BC, but also hints at future projects DICE/EA have in store.

The interview has been translated from German & cleaned up, but there may still be a few grammatical errors:
When and, above all, why did you actually decided to get rid of the commanderin Bad Company? Is it more of the background story with the renegade soldiers or is it your target for a wider mass to be addressed?

Karl Magnus Troedsson: It is up to accessibility. In Battlefield 2, there are many elements that are difficult for novices to master. As consoles are the target group, there were things we wanted to simplify and make more accessible. That is why we have also removed the artillery and external weapon. It should also be clear for beginners how things work in Bad Company.

I know that your not allowed to talk about Battlefield 3, but will you and can you,in theory, use the Frost Bite engine from Bad Company?

Karl Magnus Troedsson : As you have already mentioned, I can not talk about Battlefield 3, but the Frost Bite engine is designed for our other titles used to be. At the moment we are still concentrating on the next-generation consoles, but there are a connections to the PC.

So could your Bad Company also implemented for the PC?

Karl Magnus Troedsson : Yes, that would be possible, but we will not do.

Because you do not have the next PC Battlefield allowed to talk, what is it with the last? What do you think yourself about Battlefield 2142? Do you not also felt that it it did not quite meet the expectations?

Karl Magnus Troedsson : I have played all the versions, where I spent most of the second part spent, and each variant had something special. What I like about 2142 was all the medals and weapons. I also liked the slight science-fiction touch, but your right in part, that it is of the gameplay perspective, not a similarly big step was like between 1942 and the second part.

And the next Battlefield on the PC will once again be a big step?

Karl Magnus Troedsson: First, Bad Company is already a big step forward with its new engine and the fresh ideas a big step forward. And as the Battlefield series has always been on the PC at home, you can also coming from the PC version expect something big.

A Small question conclusion: Why does your Bad Company feature no customizable weapons?

Karl Magnus Troedsson: It has to do with making the weapons available and balanced. Of course we have thought about, but we decided in the end, just to do what we do best.

I dont think they will push the game graphics wise more then 2142, if they did, they would lose even more players. Most players dont have a crysis beast, making a game with that detail would mean less sales and we all know EA.

Im glad there is no mod your weapon, no offence to dice but their balance department clearly doesnt take into account all the factors. Unlike IWs COD4 which is balance perfection.

Jackal, this never stops, in a year Crysis will be an average game for performance and the companies will release games even more hungry: they must sell PC's, graphic cards, you know?

I think they will push the graphics more. And I don't think it will lose more players. I'm sure you will be able to turn down the graphics for the game just like any other bf game on pc. And the frostbite engine is not pumping out graphics comparable to crysis on xbox360. I don't believe the frostbite engine will be demanding the same beast as crysis for highest settings. But people still using a Radeon 9600 or Nvidia equivalent will probably be left in the dust.

Awesome graphics will definitely sell BF3 not hold it back, many people knew Crysis would be a flopper online game and just a showcase of graphics from the beginning that's why they didn't buy it.

See Call of Duty 4 for reference. Excellent graphics and relatively low specs needed to play since the game scales well.

That is all we need :)

I don't know what makes everyone so sure that bf3 is even being made. even if it is, how long after they make it public knowledge will it be until it comes out? almost every big game is announced at least a year before. think about how long the following games were made public before being released: bf2, cod4, crysis, etqw, ffow, ut3, wic, wow ...

The moment a game is released SOP demands that all DICE employees are immediately reassigned to the next project.
