DICE Surprised by Strong Reaction to BFBC Cash for Weapons

Videogaming247 has posted up a new interview with DICE producer Jamie Keen about the cash for weapons scandal with Battlefield: Bad Company. Take a look:
“We were slightly surprised by the strength of the reaction,” he said.

“Charged downloadable content is becoming more prevalent throughout gaming, but it’s important for us to be able to react to people’s wishes and desires. There was a very strong reaction to it.

“For a game like Battlefield, where we’ve had a very strong online presence, and traditionally we’ve had very strong communications with the community, it’s important for us to be able to react to people. And yeah, we have to listen to people.”

Keen added, by way of explanation as to why the idea of charging for certain weapons had been included, that the concept was essentially a test.

“The beta was an opportunity for us to try out a few different bits and pieces and see how people react to it, and that was one of things we wanted to see,” he said. “One of the things that cropped up was the reaction to [charging for weapons].”

Following a turnaround on the issue, Keen said he was pleased at the way the community has reacted to EA’s decision to make all the weapons in Bad Company free.

'Strong communications with the community'? 'We have to listen to people'?

Is it any damn wonder that EA has got bad PR?
It's never an afterthought with them for this kind of thing, it's intentional and it's never with the consumer's interest in mind. It's one thing to come up with a game so full of content that the last thing left to do is create extra content and make something seperate with it. It's entirely another to have everything in the waiting and purposely not allow the owner to get it with the final product. In some realms of software sales this is considered Crippleware.
This junk doesn't fly well with me.
Focus on making a top-notch quality game and then do the add-ons.
“We were slightly surprised by the strength of the reaction,” Get out of here!

EA has to get their act straight. Give us 2 new cool unlocks for each class (in BF2) and I will remove them from the "Shoot on sight" list.

              Xbox Live = money scam

i think it is stupid how people have to pay for extra stuff for a god damn game, for example
BFBC - having to buy weapons that arent featured in the game on release

when new stuff is made for a gam on the 360 it should come in a patch not in a DLC pack it is a waste of time, that is the main reason i stick with PC gaming

Ahhm surprized by the communities reaction ? what were they expecting people to say ?

"YES EA GAMES ! We would LOVE to give you even MORE of our money just to get a new weapon to use ! thank you for this awesome feature !"

Welcome to reality...who would like to spend cash on getting new guns and equipment ?
