Boy , i'm not a mapper, but i'd surely be ticked off after reading the rules for the IW Mapping contest. Creators have to pretty much relinquish ownership of the map, entitling IW to it. So they can change it, slap their name on it, take the credit from it, profit from it and give you what ?? Nothing.. The "winner" gets a 9800GTX wwooooo. Seriously ? They made what, $10 Million in 10 days with 4 maps, 1 a remake. And that from guys who do this for a living. So here, you steal someone elses work, they "win" a $300 video card. Gee, generous. Considering the guys who made these maps have jobs/school/family, you'd think it'd be a little more substantial. Oh and if you don't live in one of the 5 ,,, yes 5,, countries eligable, you are SOL.

Even EA gives away better prices then those stupid prices. Sure, a 9800 GTX is cool but isn't it better to just give 500 bucks or something?

EA recently gave away 5000 bucks in their C&C ladder tournament...now that's what i call a price!

That BFE contest sounds better then IW contest, because you would think of a developer with a game that sold over 9 million in a few months would have a larger price and a quite poor ( :p ) BFE community can give away 100!!

What were the prizes the first time on the mapping contest?

If I was a mapper and IW accepted my map and added it to an expansion pack and all you yahoos where playing on it, I would be THRILLED!

Then I might win something? Sweet!

Then I would activate my secret code causing everyone on the server to dump a marty grenade while i sit back and laugh and take a sip from my CoD4 water bottle

Read the Mod Tools EULA. Also, the mapper is not forced to enter their map, they can easily chose to not participate in the contest.

Yes but surely thats a load of BS because if thats the rules then anything i code using C++ is owned by Microsoft any anything i make in Photoshop Adobe could claim as theirs surely that can't be right

Your works in those programs are not such derivitives that they require those development tools to operate properly. Besides, MS and Adobe knows that their programs are used for commercial purposes, so they do not have such a line in their EULA.

If you create a map in CoD4, you're depending on their game to allow your map to run properly, thereby should you sell your map, you're making money off of their product. Normally they'll never snatch up your stuff unless you begin to make money.

I'm finally starting to get the final legal copy / approval from local bailiff's for UK, Spain, France, and Italy so we can hopefully open submission for those territories in the coming week. I apologize it's taken so long to get the international law straightened out for this contest. We greatly underestimated the approval process for international territories and have been going back and forth with the legal department over restrictions and rules since the launch of the contest to get this all together and open it to as many users as possible.

Thanks to everyone who has submitted so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing future submissions for some of our international users.
