    FourZeroTwo PC/PS3 Blog Updates

Infinity Ward's community manager FourZeroTwo has posted up two new blog updates today. Take a look:
On the PC Side of Things
We’re getting ready to announce official submission guidelines / location for the Community Map Contest. In the coming week or so we’re going to be letting you know where you can go to officially sign-up and submit your Custom Community Map on the PC. It will also have a list of all official prizing that the winning map will walk away with. We’ve secured some nice prizes so I’m anxious to get this thing kicked off and a winner announced.

I should also have some official news for you on the status of the potential map pack release on the PC along with the Community Map Contest news. So expect that news in the near future as well.

On The PS3 Side of Things
I was originally hoping we’d have all the details finalized for the upcoming launch of the Variety Map Pack on the PS3 by last week, but it’s been taking a bit longer than expected. The only thing we’re waiting on now is official dates, all the logistics are essentially worked out.

I got word today that the Variety Map Pack for PS3 has went amazingly well through Certification at Sony and they plan on having it available on the brand spanking new PSN store in the coming weeks. I’ll have an exact date for you in the very near future. I’ve seen mock-ups of the new PSN store and it looks cool, lots of new features to play around with so it’s going to be great to have the Variety Map Pack as one of the first new things available when it launches.

It sadly is just a reassurance that their still alive...Nothing truly new about the PC side of things. The new interesting part though is after the map contest date ended and all, clearly they did not want to go through every map because originally IW was going to look through the maps posted on the forum with [RELEASE] or [BETA]. Now, they come back and are saying screw the March 31st deadline, we are gonna have official submission and you need to sign-up.

Kinda bologna if you ask me, and for all the map makers who worked tirelessly to finish their maps by the 31st, I am sorry to them that IW has now decided almost half way into April to scratch that.

Yea it is. Im not a map maker but to extend a deadline with a bunch of regulations attached when you met the first deadline with its regulations (or lack of) just so the maps can be "filtered" to a lower number, is bunk.

Im sure there will be many good map makers that won't here this news and their maps will be dumped, while the Rainbow Bright maps make it into the pot.

That's what they're referring to when they say map pack for the pc.

And yeah, as a graphic designer myself, I know how some map makers would feel with this new info. Answer, not good. Plus, in the real world deadlines usually get pushed forward, not back. So all of their hours spent to get it done in time...not wasted, but still tsk tsk IW.

Well you will read from some map makers that they left some small details out of their map to get it in by the deadline...etc and now have started different projects. All of a sudden they get light that their finished map really didn't need to be rushed to get finished.

It's just, I look for a game developer who I am honored to play their games and support them. I support InfinityWard from the start, but I am beginning to question how much different are they than the rest. I think the problem is, I see laziness on their part with what has happened. That's America today, everyone's lazy.

I wouldn't necessarily call them lazy. I was on a mod team for 1.5 years and a lot of problems happen behind the scenes that you don't release to the public b/c you want to appear professional. So I wouldn't say lazy. Now, you go where the money is and when you look at the Xbox 360 numbers, I would be putting my manpower towards making those people happy first. I'm not saying we haven't been blessed with patches (I'm not complaining at all), I'm just saying it would be smart on their part to please the people generating the biggest revenue for them.

Don't state something that takes little means on your part and than change your mind and go with something completely different. That is all that I am saying

Update from 402 on the IW.com forum: http://www.infinityward.com/communit...1781#msg401781

                      Hey --

Yeah, sorry it's taking longer than expected to confirm all the legal / logistics of the contest.

To give you an idea of where we stand right now.

We have all the prizing confirmed (which will be announced with the official submission rules). The biggest hold up is typically always Legal with an contest. So we're trying to get all the legal mumbo jumbo regarding contest submissions. I've been fighting to make sure it wasn't US-only as I know we have a lot of amazing mappers worldwide (especially in Europe). So that took some working on.

In addition we had to get our partner (who will be helping taking submissions / voting / publicizing the winning map maker) because we want to make sure the top guys get a lot of credit for their awesome custom maps.

So essentially Prizing, potential partner, and logistics are known, just waiting on final legal and messaging to kick it off. Wink

Also, been working on getting a certain 'unreleased' PC-specific prize in the prize pack that we had to work on. So hopefully that goes through.

As for the forums being down, that's simply due to the Activision server that hosts it going down. I just posted an add for a Web Builder on our jobs page, he will be coming in full-time here at IW to maintain all website related updates and upgrades while I focus on information flow. Meanwhile we have a separate team working on a new Infinityward.com + Forums that will replace our current one and will be the dedicated site for all news and updates that we can rely on.

I think that that was a good move on their part. DO you expect anybody to sit through the thousands of cod4 maps that appear when you type 'custom cod4 map' into google?

Its just not practical. Dont know why they didnt create a submission rule in the first place but come on people, think about this properly.

True, but you know all those map makers are probably going to submit anyways. I figured IW was keeping tabs on all the maps as the community is doing. At least he explained it further in his update but I still don't understand why all of a sudden the whole "You just submit your maps on the forums" thing has changed. Eh, it's whatever..probably legal mumbo-jumbo, the same reasons why we dont get the DLC Map Pack:shakehead:

Just because you didn't get something for free, while others are paying for it, doesn't mean that IW is digging a grave. That is also not a good enough reason to be pissed off, unless you're a complete and utter spoiled brat (I am not saying that you are).

To get more people to use the mod tools. If there was something that would rule somebody's map out, then the mapper may have not released a map.
