well, it depends on the game, really. You wouldn't want a close quarters game like counter strike to have huge maps.

But the battlefield series is about just that - a battlefield. I agree with what you said, to some extent. Any VEHICLE-BASED FPS that has less than 64 player servers is a disappointment. As our internetz, and hardware get better, and faster, it SHOULD open doors for servers than can support that many people. like... if everyone in the world had fibre optic internet, then wouldn't "ping" be obsolete, or just about?

Has EA even publicly acknowledged BF3?

Player numbers is a weird thing, i hope they dont do a Crysis and have vast maps that turn it into hide and seek with nuclear weapons.
I would like to see a game actually manage to properly do 128 players but i think 64 is a good number, too few to be chaotic just enough to avoid the same person. With smaller numbers it just becomes more and more likely that you are going to kill or get killed by the same guy over and over which detracts from the fun.

But i think we've skirted around the real issue for long enough and i think its time we just went in head on and got it resolved once and for all.
Will Cilit Bang be sponsoring the Grenades or not?

i like it, i like the idea, i like the refreshing new cartoonish looks in a gaming world full of realistic uberz0r graphics, alot of ppl say "its just like TF!!" does TF have vehicles? and its FREE. that word is something i love in games FREE.

only 2 things worry me, the micro payments (not fair if uber weapons are involved) and the "make the game you want to play" (wich eventually will mean noobtubes for everyone)

i hope i'm wrong about the last 2 but for that its just a matter of waiting to see how it comes up.

Knowing DICE the maps will be dynamic so it will fit for the competition/tournament/leauge play (4x4,8x8, etc.) and cater to the communities that love to have as many players playing at one time. Only this time around I hope they make the server code rock stable, and have server side anti-cheat and other server-side admin utilities/settings to help with stabilization, player administration, etc. so namehacks, aimhacks, etc. will be dedicated by the server as unnormal player activity and boot them out.

If they do a Ranked type setting as BF2/BF2142 are, I hope they heavily enforce their RSP server upgrade policy and rule enforcement on illegal servers. Maybe have the servers automatically disabled if they are Ranked and out of date after one week, depending on the operating system. Example Windows Servers always get the patches first so they will have one week to get all servers upgraded, and the Linux servers have one week after the upgrade has been issued to them.

Also for the in-game there are of course many players that just don't get how to play. So the addition of in-game how to tutorials would be a big plus like 2142 had. One thing that always seems to be missing from all games recently released is a highly detailed server admin guide, so including this would be a big plus. Ranging from how to set the server up for LANs, and Internet play, how to prepare your mod for auto-installation like Counter Strike games do. If the mod is XXMB large the user is prompted do they want to download the game in the background while they play.

Auto Updating of the client would be another great feature so users never have to worry about if they have the right patch or not. For tournaments and leagues release what is going to be included in the patch so they can prepare for the changes before hand and aren't holding players back from upgrading to the latest version due to the possibilities of broken custom mods.

we're negative because we want to express our discontent with the way the BF franchise has been handled as of late, particularly BF2142 (which is the buggiest game in recent memory). it's important to express this so that DICE can avoid making the same stupid mistakes.

Yes, free is great. That's not my point though, the thing I'm worried about is that Dice is using its resources on simplified cartoony stuff instead of a game that continues the excellent proven formula of BF1942 and BF2. :salute:

have you tought that this free game might be a good way for dice to test and try out stuff to put in BF3?

maybe so many mistakes wont be made in BF3 once its released if they test their ideas and ppl give their feedback on this game.

well they made BF2 which is a great game so its obvious they got the juice, I didn't like 2142 so I never bothered with it but BF2 kept giving for over 2 years

as long as the game is not rushed we should be ok

there will be a demo for BF3 hopefully so u can try it and see if u like it, i tried 2142 demo and didn't like it so I never bought the full game, i guess the futuristic war is not my kinda thing but this cartoony stuff looks promising, its free but I wouldn't mind even if they charged for it

Dice/EA's track record for listening to community feedback hasn't exactly put them in contention for any "Best Developer" awards...

Knowing DICEA, you can bet that the cartoonish game is to test how well the new "pay to be awesome" concept will cash in. Why do you think its going to be out so early?

It's sickening how EA wants to paint itself like a company that cares about it's customers. "We are so nice we are giving you a free game" "We want to make the free game fun for you, so your feedback will be valued" How about giving us free maps and content for the game we actually paid for and listening to our feedback in order to get rid of all the problems it has plagued the game. I don't care about a stupid free game, i care about the stupid game is spent my money on
