I agree. I detest torrents, but to get the server files I actually installed one and then my server host added to the installable mods for BF2... didn't even need to download it.

For some reason, mod teams just love using torrents when they could use PW protected ZIP's as well from reliable sources and FTP.

well I was wanting to go on and download the file directly from the server to the server, so I wasn't about to install utorrent or anything else to do that. I was also at work and I really didn't fell like downloading a torrent downloader on my work machine although I ended up doing it anyway so I could FTP the files up.

Thank God for that lovely 45meg up/down pipe :yay:

"Reliable sources" may not come easy to some mod teams, as hosting for 1-2Gb files can get rather expensive. Even then, private file servers bog down when everybody's downloading at once. You could put it on a big file site like Fileplanet, but nobody likes waiting 30 minutes just to start a download (unless they want to pay for free content). Compared to sitting and waiting, torrents are more convenient for both the mod teams and the players. Even if you don't like them, be happy that all these losers using the torrents will lessen the load on other mirrors when release day rolls around, making your conventional download faster.

That being said, I agree with you on the fact that server files are a hassle as torrents...it's faster to transfer directly to the server through HTTP/FTP.

Or we could all use Modjive.

As stated previously torrents are an awesome system to get the files before the Oficial H-Hour, D-Day

And that's Friday 14th December, 2007 at 19:00GMT, not today

If you download this torrent, and God knows you can get it in two days if your connection is not from Triasic Age and your torrent program is not horribly configured, you will meet us in our crazy classic mIRC release party, we will be goofing around there and at 19:00 GMT we will deliver the password and you will be playing at your local favourite server some minutes later.

If you use the classic systems, more than likely you will wait in a queue, the download will crawl like an old turtle, and you will join the fight some hours later.

              You decide

I uploaded it to there already but it doesn't seem to be working for some members.. I suggest the torrent since I'm uploading at my end at over 2gigs now so rock on!
