    Server Info Available

Infinity Ward has released some new info today on the Call of Duty 4 servers and some of its options. Take a look:
    Stock Un-modded Server Options
(these can not be modified if you wish to run a ranked server):

    Start Server Options:
    • Game Mode
    • Dedicated
    o No
    o LAN
    o Internet
    • Max Players (1-32)
    • Min Ping
    • Max Ping
    • Voice Chat (Yes / No)
    • Auto-Balance Team (Yes / No)
    • Map Voting (Yes / No)
    • Punkbuster (Yes / No)
    • Map

    Game Mode Settings:
    • Old School Mode: Enabled / Disabled
    • Hardcore Mode: Enabled / Disabled
    • Spectating: Team Only / Free / Disabled
    • Killcam: Enabled / Disabled
    • Friendly Fire: Enabled / Shared / Reflect / Disabled

    Team Deathmatch Settings:
    • Score Limit
    • Time Limit

    Hardware + Bandwidth Requirements:
Bandwidth and server resource usage should be lower than that of COD2 in most situations, but it is not guaranteed. There are some situations where bandwidth usage may spike, and the server will get hit harder than usual. Generally, if you're capable of hosting a COD2 dedicated server you should be just fine for COD4.

I heard a nasty rumor that the dedicated server will require the whole game to be uploaded. Is this true?

Can I assume by the lack of replies that the rumor is false?

It appears that the rumor is true.

VT_Nerd confirmed earlier today when messaging our GSP (Wolf). IW doesn't have a lot of experience with deploying MP games. It shows. The GSPs should have had server files last week or the week before, IMO.

I'm a little confused. What are the default values of these that can't be changed? It just says they can't be changed but don't tell you what they default to.

Ok let me get this straight.. Anyone can setup a server and its considered "Ranked" or whatever crap as long as you don't change certain files...but in order to set up a server you need to upload your copy of the game to the server and go from there???

Is this all right? Cause I really don't want to buy the game I was just going to throw a server up and let it go for friends.

If you read the entire post on IW.com, it contains two sections or parts. Only the first bit has been posted above in this thread here.

The first section is almost identical to what is posted above in this thread. Those are the options you are allowed to change however you want, and still have a ranked server. It doesn't matter what the default values are - you are allowed to change them (they'll be drop down menus, or click-to-adjust values) to customize your game.

The second section of the post on IW.com contains ALL the different server variables. You can change which weapons are available and what limits, which perks are allowed, which classes, etc, etc. These things change the way the game operates, like a mod, and if you alter THESE values via the config file (ie. they won't have in-game toggles), then the server is no longer ranked.

EDIT: read my thread here, with colour coding. It might help. :) http://www.totalgamingnetwork.com/ma...ad.php?t=39106

Yes, that's correct as to how a server is ranked or not. And as far as we know at this point, yes, you need to upload the game files to the server to run it.
