    Project Reality v0.61 Patch Released

The Project Reality team is back today with a new release for their mod, v0.61. Here's what they had to say:
The Project Reality Mod Team and Black Sand Studios are proud to announce the official release of the Project Reality v0.61 Client Patch and Server Update!

Over the past two months, we have been tediously combing through Project Reality v0.6, addressing any major issues and bugs which were introduced upon its release. Thanks to the continued support from you, the community, and our team of dedicated testers, we have successfully corrected many of the bugs and have even thrown a few new features into the fray. The Project Reality v0.61 Patch greatly improves the overall stability of the mod and leaves us a solid foundation to construct future releases on.

    New Features and Updates:
Project Reality has finally been blessed with the highly anticipated WAH-64 Apache. Initially planned to be in the v0.6 release, this two-seat attack helicopter was excluded due to a minor coding mishap, but it is now included on Kashan Desert (32 player version).

The main update included in the v0.61 patch is the completely revamped British Woodland and Desert Skins. Both were re-designed from the ground up by two of our very own community members, Splush and Shiftys1023. I will let the screenshots do the talking for this one.

    <a href="http://images.totalgamingnetwork.com/images/pr061release_woodskin03.jpg"><img src="http://images.totalgamingnetwork.com/images/thumb_pr061release_woodskin03.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a> <a href="http://images.totalgamingnetwork.com/images/pr061release_desertskin01.jpg"><img src="http://images.totalgamingnetwork.com/images/thumb_pr061release_desertskin01.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a> <a href="http://images.totalgamingnetwork.com/images/pr061release_desertskin03.jpg"><img src="http://images.totalgamingnetwork.com/images/thumb_pr061release_desertskin03.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>
    Bug Fixes and Code Changes:
The v0.61 patch optimizes both the client and server side python code, updates the localization files, and incorporates various sound tweaks. Improvements have also been performed to multiple maps, improving their overall stability. Some of the major changes/fixes include:

    • Servers can run localized versions of the server messages for kit request, rally points, commander assets, etc. (Dutch, English, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Portuguese (Brazilian), Spanish and Swedish).
    • Ammunition can be obtained from rally points like intended.
    • Insurgency game mode has been overhauled.
    • Crewman kit does not have a wrench anymore.
    • Totally new parachute logic (depending on the time from opening until you hit the ground you take different amounts of damage - 30s for no damage).
    • Multiple map updates to improve balance and game play.
    • Commander trucks can now be requested at bunkers and firebases.
    • Scoring system updates to encourage teamwork and staying together as a squad.
    • Server stability and performance updates.

    Project Reality Manual Updated:
We have continued to update the Official Project Reality Manual so both new players and veterans alike can stay up to date and prepare for the intense battles you can only find in Project Reality. All major updates and new features found in the v0.61 patch are explained and outlined in the manual. Current languages available are English, Spanish, and German.

ick. hate to critisize but that kinda sums up why i probably won't be playing much of the new release (or much pr at all). in the real world, sure, open your chute too late and you're fecked. 'course, in the real world i'd either be well away from any situation causing me to chute in the first place (3 miles away firing of hellfires in my apache, 20,000 feet up dropping bombs from whatever plane) and if not, i'd still be damn high up when i jumped, helped by my infinite visibility stemed only by the cuvature of the earth and my own eyesight.

now, i may be wrong, but can you even get much higher than about 30 seconds chute time in the bf2 engine? let alone be able to see anything from that hight... virtual world, real pain. oh well, have fun those of you that can put up with it.

edit: potential solutions. hopefully these have been put in place anyway, cos i haven't played for a while...

            1. near infinite flight altitute. i rarely recall going above 3000 ft in bf2, and that's in desert conflict with the flight ceiling increased much more than any other mod i've played. you can get a decent drop time from there, but something like 1942's heights would be better (5 minute drops in dc woohoo).

            2. above's no use without decent view distance, if you can't see the ground until 5 secs before hitting it no one'll know when to open chutes anyway, or where they're going...

            3. or, altimeters on player huds. would help a little / lot.

            4. again with altitude; dogfights are taking place at 2000 ft atm. what chance has anyone got if they need to eject?

            5. decent weapons systems so i don't need to fly at 1000 ft in the first place to see a target and drop bombs.

            6. parachute kits / herc. if you can do the above, lord knows i'll be the first to jump in and play, so why not give me a correct kit and someone / ai flying a herc that we can all chute out of at once but, don't go adding &#37; chances of my chute not opening / death without first giving me the ability to check the chute on the ground to make sure it's fine before i jump anywhere, cos we're back to square 1 then.

                    1. Kashan Desert has an extremely high flight ceiling (over 5000)

                    2. new maps will have a high view distance (over 1000)

                    3. All aircraft have an altimeter.

                    4. the code basically means you will survive as long as you pull your chute at about 100 meters.

                    6.

Re: Project Reality v0.61 Patch Released

Remember v0.506's Airport map where the Brits start the round by parachuting in? The 5000m ceiling height could make some opportunities for HALO type drops now, with the individual soldiers needing to watch their mini radar or map for landing movements to avoid falling all over the map and disabling squad movement/rally point structure.

For now, one feature of the Real World is moved towards, to prevent roof hoppers acting like Batman across the city roofs of urban maps. No ones going to be jumping off a 2 storey building and pressing the parachute key more than one time now :)

Stabilisation in server code to avoid a lot of disconnect problems (read the news article very carefully about installation issues some people can potentially have and the fix to download entire client) a couple of new Brit skins that look more real wordly.

We now have a large change to the points scoring system in current use to help reward people for support jobs, specific target elimination and other assorted things that made certain classes/gameplay undesirable to those who feel points mean something (it's not the points! it's the new and inventive ways of killing your opponent and giggling about it afterwards that counts here!) Someone will get back to you about the sniper scoring system which doesn't appear to have had any change this build round.
