Re: Forgotten Hope 2 Mod Update

All this mindless ranting when we all know everyone in this thread is going to download FH2 when it releases. Almost everyone, and I say almost (for some WWII is not their thing) that frequents TotalBF2 or BF1942 files and owns a copy of BF2 will download FH2, everybody and their mom knows that, so what's everyone worried about? We know it's gonna kick *** and we know the devs love developing it. We also know there will be hardcore's like myself that will continue to play it in spite of new game releases and we will be happy. For those who choose to move on, that's their choice.

I fail to see what all the fuss is about, if you can't wait, don't; move on to something else and have fun, just don't let the door hit you on the way out.

    Cheers.

I find it funny when I keep hearing people say the longer you take the more people who will loose interest.

I don't know about everyone else but every time I see a update it makes me even more interested everytime. Take as long as you want devs because I will be waiting.

Just to try and save the mods from having to delete even more bitchy postings, read this first:

Take a look at EOD2. That's right, I said it. EOD2. Does anyone play that at all anymore? Any of you former or of the few current players remember what the initial release was like? Overpowered sniper kits ruined the experience for 75% of the player base. They left in droves, and EOD2 was a BIG release that a lot of people were clamoring for. I think that those devs felt like what they had was "good enough" and released it without thorough testing to appease the shouting masses. What did it get them? A dead mod, IMHO. Sure, they recently posted some new pictures on their website and talked about a new version a few days ago, but that news wasn't even carried on Total BF2.

The FH2 crew doesn't want that to happen. They don't want to release betaware, which is a shock to most PC owners. They want to release a finished product, closer to what console game makers strive to do (Motorstorm notwithstanding). A product that they don't have to continuously update (or even if they do want to do that, they aren't fixing bugs or nerfing anything, they are adding new content every time).

I used to be one of the complainers, but I will appreciate a final product that I have to wait for over an EOD2-like release that is fraught with problems and people stop playing the mod.

                        Exactly^^

And FH2 has a much larger variety of content than EOD2 did for its first release. They want it all working as it should.

I hope EOD2 makes a comeback with a new release in the future. I thought it was pretty fun, even as unbalanced as it was... That can be fixed though.
They need more vehicles, almost all infantry combat gets boring pretty quick. That was as much the problem as any balance issues imho.

Just to clear this up a bit. EOD did not release thinking "this is good enough". We were just unaware of how powerful the sniper rifles really were. During testing usually only 10 or less people would show up. Everyone would just use the assault rifles, or LMG's and maybe there would be one or two snipers at a time. We never had hordes of 20 snipers in testing. When EOD was released all the sniper whores discovered how unbalanced the sniper rifles where, then everyone caught on.

A few bugs in a release is no big deal, but when a bug becomes an exploit, that is a mod's worst nightmare.

On a positive note about FH2's delayed release is that they will have pretty much 100% custom content when they are done. This will make it somewhat easy for them to pick up and move to another game engine if needed. So even if they missed the boat for BF2's popularity, it's no big deal. Forgotten Hope has become an institution. It'll never die. It'll just move on to something better. So all this moaning about FH=fail are usually from short-sighted individuals that only know about the BF2 community and have no clue about the FH community.

                              preach on brother rad!

That's really a big feat what you guys have accomplished. Most of the people that whine about mods have no clue what kind of work and skill goes into this nor (obviously) appreciate it. That amount of quality content is usually only seen by game development companies/studios that have a huge team that does it for a living. And even then it still takes as long, if not longer than you guys have. It blows me away how all of these people constantly complain and act like the mod teams owe them a mod/game just because they spent $50 on bf2 and EA/DICE said they would support mods.
