    Desert Conflict Mod Update

There is a new update posted today over at the Desert Conflict mod website. Here's what they had to say:
Hello to all the DCon community out there! I thought I'd get round to writing a journal entry to give you guys a look at something I've been working on. These things are written to give you all an insight into what the developers of mods need to go through in order to bring you guys what you want. I hope that you enjoy the behind the scenes look and don't find things too boring.

Today I'll be giving you a sneak peak into a DC favorite. Is it a Helicopter? Is it a Plane? Well it's a bit of both actually. It is of course the AV-8 Harrier.

Please note - The Harrier is still in it's very early stages of development and as such is still a WIP. There's a lot of unfinished and untidy stuff that will be cleared up before you guys are allowed to get your hands on it. I'm sorry to say it probably won't make it into the mini-patch but its certainly a possibility for .2.

looking good. nice to see the flow of ideas materializing.

will the harrier carry the same basic flight characteristics of a f35 in vanilla?

To learn more why it's on fire, PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT AND READ THE ENTIRE THREAD ON OUR SITE.

Also, here is a short clip ingame. Enjoy.

What we failed to explain or what you failed to read? Just to point out DCon is separate to TotalBF2. The updates posted on TotalBF2 are often shortened versions of actual updates. It's the same for every mod out there. In future please don't read shortened versions of updates and then accuse DCon of not explaining things. If there's anything that isn't explained in the full update I'll be more than happy to answer people's questions about it if I can. Cheers. :)

As for *FMJ*Power's question, no the harrier won't have the same flight characteristics of an F35. It will have flight characteristics as close as we can get (which is pretty close) to the DC Harrier. (Again, this was mentioned in the full update on the DCon site ). For an early indicator of how this thing is going to fly, load up Desert Combat and practice with that. People who were good Harrier pilots in DC will find the transition from DC to DCon easy as the flight physics are very similar. :)

Maybe noone read the full article at your site because so many wont visit the site. After the responses I saw in the forums to people asking legitimate questions I personally felt like they were abusive and disrespectful to the sites visitors and fans.

Since the engines are invisible in game I've added a flaming effect to them so you can see where they are and how they rotate. Imagine the flames as the thrust that comes from the engines.

                    Pitch
The pitch is altered by all three of the engines. If you pitch up the engine racks will rotate towards the nose causing you to drift backwards. If you pitch down the engine racks will rotate towards the tail causing you to drift forwards.

                    Roll
The roll of the Harrier is altered by the middle engine. If you roll left the engine rack will rotate to the right causing you to drift left. If you roll right the engine rack will rotate to the left causing you to drift right.

                    Yaw
Yaw is controlled by the forward and rear engines. If you yaw right, the forward and rear engine racks will rotate opposite to each other causing a clockwise force about the Harrier's centre of gravity. The opposite occurs when you yaw left.

Just like in DC this flight setup means newcomers will find it difficult to get to grips with the Harrier at first and they will probably need some extra practice. On the otherhand people who have flown the Harrier in Desert Combat should feel right at home. Put in the practice and you should find you're able to manoeuvre this big beast in and out of any small space. :)

I assumed the plane was on fire because that was the best effect that they had for the thrusters. :p

I was going to suggest a heatwave effect, but I don't think that would be very easy to implement.

honestly guys can we dispense with some of the nonsense in here. It will have the proper effects. The fire effect was used to show the general persons not knowing how the harriers control systems worked from DC so that the engines positioning and thrust could be visibly seen.

I completely disagree with you on that one. I saw a stream of very rude and insulting banters from lots of pubbers, and even some of the people at the ladders. I personally am shocked that CAL would allow representatives of thier group to talk the way they did in a public forum. They lost my support after that one for sure. They arent even a non profit group like the mod teams are.

The Harrier is bad ***, and thats a sweet update. :salute:

you can't blame CAL for anything, the guys over there bent over backwards waiting on a few fixes to the already released update which was long over due but instead the extra time appears to be used to put more content and adjust game play for the worse. They worked very hard to get sponsors for the tourney they held which was the first of its kind. Although I think the Dev's here have worked hard, just some fixes should have came out first and some changes here recently should have never been made. I don't blame CAL for losing interest in the mod nor the fact that after this past release just took down their forums of it all together. The comments made by players of CAL on the DCON forums were only those speaking the truth and perhaps from a few MOD players left that enjoy this mod.

I myself supported it for as long as I could... the end.
