So it's perfectly logic that mods like FH2, BF Pirates, etc, have still not released, meanwhile DCON, USI, OPK, PoE, PR, etc had been released.

Impatience doesn't make mods, I would wish, hell, mods would release in three hours if so
ye I forgot to explain that bit, but you could cut down your work load and could have aimed for a much smaller first release of only infantry but that is going off on a diffrent tangent and wouldn't work too well to have a infantry only WW2 mod based on the African front :p

Re: Forgotten Hope 2 Mod Update

I don't think Lobo will shoot me for sharing what I know, as I haven't worked with FH2 for about 12 months now, so anything I know is at least 12 months out of date. Don't try to glean anything new or read anything into my post that isn't there, because I haven't had access to the inside info since I left.

What I do know is when I was there it really was shaping up to be one of the great BF mods - far better than FH on bf1942 was, honestly. It had some truely innovative features underway, and the guys there like ctz and Rad (and others) always had their brains ticking over looking for more ways to differentiate from the vanilla. It really did feel good to play, and playing the one bot enabled map we had at that stage was immense fun, even as a developer, to see it all coming together. Hearing Germans scream in agony has never felt so good. Getting bombed by ctz never felt so bad.

But having said that, despite the clear direction and wonderment, it was not polished, and would have resulted in most players getting frustrated and leaving after a week or two, and as good as it was, even the hardcore probably wouldn't have stuck it out.

I think people need to get it into their heads that a small, balanced release of a few tanks and a bolt action rifle as a first release just isn't possible for a WWII mod, but most of all, it just wouldn't be Forgotten Hope. Forgotten Hope is the grandfather of mods, traditionally the biggest mod, with a dizzying array of content. You would feel utterly shortchanged with a release which had 2 bolt action rifles and a kubelwagen. I for one would have refused to call that Forgotten Hope - it just wouldn't be.

Trust me guys, you don't want this thing released half finished, the problem with having so many great features is that the more points of difference there are with the vanilla game, the more the unfinished parts stand out, as an artist (which all modders are) that is incredibly irritating, and as a player, it is incredibly frustrating.

So just wait, even 12 months ago I could tell it would be great, I can only imagine how wonderful it must be when it is finished.

Not one person has mentioned the custom undergrowth in those map screenshots - a testament to the detail this game will have.

if you are talking about these green black splodges under the palm trees: http://images.myinternetservices.com..._Rezegh_02.jpg

thous are the only things I acturly thought looked out of place to be honest, coloring aint right with them being pretty much black in the center and dark green in other places and only in small, tall clumps makes it look very odd.... so i didn't think I would comment on them before :p

ye, make the undergrowth texture more of a lighter green with less black spots and it will fit in much more :)

and you can tell that most whiners wont read them, you can already see posts after my posts saying "when are they going to release?" :p

okay, its like this, i play BF2 on high graphics and it looks pretty good, but is it just me or is this mod starting to look alot better then the actual game
                        yes, it probably will be....

from what I've seen on their site release should be sooner rather than later... so im gonna take the US political stance on iraq, and say, wait till september ! :P

Amazing view distance, and it really looks good. Not like some mods that need fog of war to cover up their maps.

No game is released 100% Going for a 100% finished game doesn't work due to the timescale. PoE was not released full of bugs or was unplayable. It was a fully blown modification complete with their own renders, maps, weapons, and sounds. Hardly a small release.

Also, whilst its their mod, if they don't listen to the playing public as to what they want then they won't play it. Thats a hard reality right there that every mod team needs to remember hence many teams releasing the initial release early on so to gain valuable feedback. Beta testing teams can only do so much and is often never enough.

I did, but I called it overgrowth by accident. :p I thought undergrowth had to disappear after a bit of range. At any rate - I meant those little bush things. :) They look amazing. Really adds to the immersive factor and really separates it from vFB2. Seems like a different game.

Like I said, the last time they listened to the playing public, they lost alot of potential players due to their early, bug laden release which really wasn't ready for a release.

I've never thought that beta releases were ever a good idea. Most of the playing public is ignorent of the definition of beta and tend to take a beta release as some sort of final release, and thus judge the entirety of the mod on that single release. I've also seen people online who are very aware of the definition of beta saying that beta releases are still no excuses for bugs, and most of them expect betas to be fairly well polished versions of the mod. The playing public expects alot more than you think from a mod, whether it's a beta or not. For FH2, I'm assuming the playing public has VERY high expectations for the first release. If they were to jump the gun and release a version of the mod that wasn't as polished as they hoped, even if it was fairly close to the final release they envisioned, it could still spell disaster for FH2.
