    Australian Forces Mod Update

After quite a bit of silence, there is a new update posted today over on the Australian Forces mod website. Here's what they had to say:
The mod is still progressing, don't let the lack of updates fool you. We aren't in any rush to pump out update after update, we really want to take our time at the moment with 1.1 and make sure we can produce something solid. It's the old dilemma of mod development - we need to put something out to keep people interested, but we don't want to rush it. People are leaving BF2 in droves for new games like ET:QW, but we have a faithful, albeit small, player base who will still be interested in 1.1. If anything, some of the new content in 1.1 should hopefully get a few more players interested.

We have our good days when we are motivated to continue the mod, we have our bad days when we couldn't give a rat's arse. We learnt a long time ago what we could, and could not do with the BF2 engine. We had to scrap a lot of the mod due to limitations, and just general lack of manpower. Now we gotta make the best of it, improvise, adapt to the environment, Darwin, shit happens, I Ching, whatever man, we gotta roll with it.

The folks who are leaving BF2 for ET,QW can go for all I care, and I don't think there will be many. Not alot of folks really pleased with the beta from what I've heard.
Anyhoo, nice work gentleman. I didn't dwnld the first release, but I'll definitely give the next one a go!

:yay: A little taste of home :) Well done for keeping on with the mod guys. I think every modder here knows how unmotivating things can be at times, but I'm glad you're sticking with it. I can't wait to play in the outback, looks excellent :)

Cool! Map looks great, can't wait to try it out.

Glad to see your still with us :salute: that is a good thing right?
I am kinda excited to see what the next gen of game engines can do, but I know for sure it's not going to be QW. :shakehead:

This engine has several limitations, can't say I don't agree with ya there.

                        Re: Australian Forces Mod Update

he heee..thanx guys...those images are still very w.i.p and resemble only a small piece of the pie, around 100 custom plants are being built to create a vegitation transition effect from mangrove swamps to the australian alpine region,a whole bunch of ground textures have been custom made and colour matched to photo's and satelite images.
theres a few well known parts of australia weve been asked to create many times uluru kata tjuta, but those locations are sacred aboriginal sites so we wont be making those,we dont want to tread on anyones toes.
                        .
as for the team not throwing in the towel..lol...we are pretty fed up with the limitations of the bf2 engine, its always 1 line of hardcoded bs that spoils alot of hard work..missed out on some cool stuff guys!
but we decided we were so close to our target of making aussie maps,so why not just lower our sights and do stuff we know can be done to better the mod.
and the main thing thats kept us going is the intrest in the mod from adf members, its so good to hear real soldiers in real warzones are playing the mod in their spare time...makes all the difference on the motivation front.
                        .
@ rhino...no thats not a morning fog effect its just the fog settings,oh and be ready for me to start hasling you over at bf2editor forum, cuz ive got lots of mapping questions to come...lol
                        .
                        thanx again guys

wow, you even fooled me hehe, just a very clever skydome and a nice thin, long texture really dose make it look awesome! I think I will need to try that out

and always ready to help a fellow modder :)
