    Allied Intent Xtended Mod Update

The team behind the Allied Intent Xtended mod are back today to showcase their May update. Take a look:
Hello all! The May update is here and once again the team has been hard at work getting new content into the AIX. Clivewil, the sneaky bugger, just moved house and has been offline for about a week and a half and came back today with a brand new jet! We didn't even know this one was coming so enjoy some images of the Saab J-35 Draken. In one of our first updates, Dasroach had a map named "Damocles" as an early WIP. We're proud to now show you the final version which looks stunning and provides a beautiful playground for armour, dogfights and infantry combat between China and the United Nations army.

Next in the weapon department, Velocity and Caliber_K have been quite busy. Velocity has finished the STG58 support weapon which is going to the Chinese. Having a scope and 50 round mag, this beast is high impact, snappy recoil and very accurate. The minigun operators on the other team will have to be on their toes against this guy. Caliber_k has modelled a new Engy weapon for the US team in the form of the Mk14 EBR rifle. This semi-auto also packs a massive punch with a big kick and is very fun to use. I dare say the Engineer class will become a new fave among players. Caliber_k also has the USP Match pistol and the AMP DSR-1 sniper rifle on show. Sorry for a smaller update, but this last month has also been a lot about creating navmeshes, bug testing, animating, coding, texuring, finicky map business and all those unfun things that go on in the background and don't make for a very interesting update lol. Rest assured the list of things to get done grows ever smaller!

Also, AIX is not based on any real world conflict as such...in fact there's nothing much "real world" about the mod except that the actual vehicles and weapons are based on real life stuff. (except maybe the minigun, lol) There's plenty of mods that do real world stuff and PR does reality awesomely as well, so we thought why do something thats already been done? The AIX devs have complete freedom over what they would like to see in game and hopefully that translates to a fun experience for you guys It's certainly been the key to keeping ourselves interested and the content flow on maximum.

Ehum, what are you talking about Troybob???
As far as I know, Sweden has never sold this jet to any Eastern European country (or the Middle East). When this plane was in service, those states where hostile! Why the Heck would we sell anything to the Enemy???

Where you perhaps thinking about the MIGs now or?
The J-35 Draken (Dragon) was made by SAAB, and sold to other Western European countries, like Denmark, Austria etc during the 60-70-ies.

Guys, Please read up on things before you post...

So why this old retired plane?
Why not the Newer SAAB jets like the Viggen (Thunderbolt) or the Gripen (Griffin)?

Well that sums it up really. We each enjoy making content that appeals to each of us personally. It was one of the most alluring things about working on AIX. Personally I think the Draken has a very unique shape and to my knowledge hasn't been done yet in bf2 (correct me if I'm wrong ) I have a Viggen on the go, but is unlikely to make it in this release.

The gist of my above post was designed to pretty much stave off "reality" posts about "this should be that" and "that country doesn't use that jet anymore" etc etc because quite simply we're in it for fun and creativity. Other mods already have the realism market cornered :)

It has been used by Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Austria and actually the screenshot shows the Austrian version. The red circle with the white triangle is the logo of the Austrian "Bundesheer" - but this old aircraft has been put out of service in 2004. At the moment Austria is using some old F-5 Tiger, leased from Switzerland until the ordered Eurofighters are available (the first should come soon, although some political parties try to prevent that).

Sorry kysterama, you posted your explanation while I was writing...

Re: Allied Intent Xtended Mod Update

Indeed it is the Austrian Version. We may not keep to reality too much but the Draken is going to our United Nations army as an Austrian Jet which isn't too far out of the realms of possibility, even if it was retired a couple of years ago

Besides all the history and politics, we just hope its fun to fly! lol

EDIT-> btw, a couple of updated pics of the Draken have been now included in the WIP thread here

I concur.....all the research I've done leads me to agree with Harry here. It seems the only operators of the aircraft were the Austrian Air Force, Royal Danish Air Force, Finnish Air Force and the Swedish Air Force. Troybob, you maybe mixing up the Drakken with the Gripen, which is used by the Czech Rebuplic and Hungary.

Reasons to explain Saab's failure to sell a competitively priced and well-respected aircraft include the Swedish government's relatively strict controls on arms exports to undemocratic countries, potential customers' doubts about continuity of support and supply of spare parts in the event of a conflict disapproved of by Sweden, and strong diplomatic pressure of larger nations. United States blocked an export of the SAAB Viggen to India in 1978 by not issuing an export license for the RM8/JT8D engine, forcing India to choose the SEPECAT Jaguar instead.

Anyway.....who really cares.....gotta give it up for AIX to have the imagination and flexability to include a classic like the Drakken in THEIR mod. Typically, is quality work too........

You're right. It's not about reality and it will of course be fun to fly - and the model looks really great, as well as your other stuff!
