PR is not meant to be BF2 with deadlier weapons. We're looking to take the gameplay into new directions. With the fidelity we have introduced into the vehicular weapon systems, they are just totally out of place in small maps.

The current large maps we are testing get great FPS on mid range systems... if you can play Basrah, you will get better performance on these maps.

We'd love to get more players into BF2, but that's a bit out of our control. Because we use a "supply lines" style of game mode, the battles will be pretty focused as .. for the most part .. teams will be fighting over the same objective (instead of whack-a-mole).

We're looking to appeal to folks interested in a rich tactical combined arms teamplay game, so I think a lot of folks will not like PR and not like the directions we are headed with the mod.

Interesting... How (if at all) will you implement it on maps with a high amount of undergrowth? Doesn't upping the undergrowth view distance create a lot of performance problems?

I'm looking forward to seeing how all this turns out!

undergrowth will stay around the same level as it is on other maps. undergrowth in BF2 is really a dectroive thing rather than a thing that should be used for consealment.

overgrowth view distance will be razied, but ehhh on forest maps we will have to keep the denisty of the trees down, or you end up with over 50,000 trees :p

IMHO yes. Remember, as others have stated already, that PR runs AAS which means that you're guaranteed to have fights at certain flags. The key to making these maps playable with 64 players is to have the flags setup so that people don't have to fly/drive around the entire map. Think of Gazala for BF1942. It was a huge map at the time, but most of the combat took place along the estern side. The west was useful for flanking one of the flags (or the enemies main) or for grabbing stuff at the abandoned airfield.

lol, I think I have to turn down my video settings a bit, I can see "picture after picture" when I get on the map, it gets better when it has "loaded" the map though.
But I like Basrah, its a good map :)

Yeah .. will have to see how it goes. I've been on the map when all 60+ vehicles are loaded... and hehe... driven them all into view range (took a while lol) and was still getting decent frame rates.

But we're gonna have an open beta for v0.6 to assess and hopefully resolve any issues.

Hats off gentlemen, you are the cutting edge mod-developers out there. You've already got enough new ideas in PR to warrant the tilted brim, and now you go and break some more barriers... Looks like I am going to have to get rid of my hat altogether :)
