  • Experience WW2 Mod Update

After quite a long break the team behind the Experience WW2 mod is back today showing off their latest work. Take a look:
XWW2 is pleased to announce that we are resuming the posting of the "Work in progress" previews of our mod by showing our oldest work first starting off where we last left off. In the following weeks to come we intend on doing a media "blitz" in order to catch up and thus show the work that we're doing. We have a mixed bag of news including new model renders, completed and in game items, new skins, new statics and of course map previews. The team is also pleased to announce the addition of a new modeler to our team. Welcome "Abyx" - XWW2 modeler!

Well have a look at the photo (link) below. Compair this to the in game shot. I try to skin things as the way they'd look back then.. not now after what 60 years or so? Wood darkens as it ages.. especially hardwoods as used in stocks like you'd see of K98s today. Combined with finishing materials and various oils.. you'd get that reddish type of finish on some stocks depending where it was made and what wood was available locally in large amounts for production. Trust me I've tinkered with the color a number of times. There's many wood tones of stocks I've seen. The orange - redish coloration seemed to be most predominat. During later testing if it's determined to be something of a disadvantage for a player on the DAK team... I'd certainly change it.

        Re: Experience WW2 Mod Update

No need to worry about the color. I´ve seen several color versions of the K98, our first version was also very orange like...

        Nice update guys

                  Re: Experience WW2 Mod Update

Personally I will play all the WW2 mods for bf2........I'm a sucka for the garand and the (ping) of the empty magazine.
Are you just doing NA atm or do you have some flava from the pacific and russian fronts for your release?

                    Re: Experience WW2 Mod Update

                    not bad

Although I would suggest that if you are going to use lower poly models, increase you texture size so you can add the details with the texture. Keeping the polys low for gameplay is a good idea, but having low poly models and low-res texture is not a good idea, imo.

I also posted some info on the K98 color in your forums, hope it helps.

                    Keep rolling, guys

                      Re: Experience WW2 Mod Update

For our initial release we plan on just the North African campaign. Of course, map suggestions are always welcome.

*and of course with a sufficient donation, a Garand could be shipped to Africa just for you

                        Re: Experience WW2 Mod Update

Definitely a "must try" as it is a WW2 mod for the BF2 engine.. Who's gonna be first releasing a WW2 mod for BF2? The race is on!

They were not red back then. Wood may darken as it ages, but when it is saturated with cosmoline and locked up for 60 years, nothing changes.

It will be great if you like realism-based mods. I dunno if you guys realize that its a realism mod.
