    Re: Battlefield 1918/2 Mod Update

I don't know whether to be very sad or really angry. Maybe both.

BF1918-2 was the mod, besides FH2, that I was looking forward to most.

I seriously hope they get the manpower they need or the required help.

BF1918-1 remains the only decent WW1 FPS.

BF1918/1 had an amazing quality, probably a better quality than FH or DC, but almost every person left the team for many reasons (mainly real-life). The BF1918/2-Team is almost a completely new team, excepted Blackjack and a few others, who works more for OPK than BF1918/2. The main problem was that they had not many or any coders.

With the help of BSS the mod might still be alive. Its a pain to see this, especially because I once was a member of Bf1918 in the great BF1942-days and it was a big fun to mod with them. This team was so talented and they HAD the best leader a modteam can have, but times have changed...unfortunately

      RIP BF1918

Hmm maybe there are still some moders from Dawn Patrol http://devfile.game-host.org/dawnpatrol/news.html who also didnt have the right amount of modelers etc and hence stopped modding. But they got some WW1 planes etc maybe they could help ?

          Well otherwise good luck :)

The modding community might be in a completely different situation in vBF2 shipped with modding tools and without the ranking system.
There would be way less people playing now if a ranking system was not implemented. The only reason I still play BF2 religiously is because of its ranking system.

BF42 never had an inhouse ranking system yet its mod are still being played 5-6 years since.....you know why? Because the game was FUN.....if you really cant play BF2 without winning awards then you need to rethink why you play the game.

I havent been on a ranked server in about a year.....and even when I did play on ranked servers it was because those were the servers my friends were playing on....

                  Why? because you say so?
Those mods are being played by very few and the servers that are up are mostly in Europe and are laggy. Yes they are fun.
The ranking system by far makes BF2 what it is. I didn't say I wouldn't be playing the game, I said that I would not be playing it as religiously. If the ranking system is garbage as you suggest, then why did they decide to add it in 2142?

Well everyone is free to choose what servers they play on. I like mods too, but to say that it would be better to have mod tools over a ranking system is just silly. Why not have both?

                    RIP BF1918
I love studying the First World War and it's great to see a decent WWI FPS out there, but to be honest the main reason I was so looking forward to BF1918/2 (besides wanting to play it, of course) was to see if they've improved from 1918/1. BF1918/1 always bothered me because it was so very rambo-style. I mean, I could tolerate the non-accurate uniforms of the time period because those take a lot of time to make, but it was the way combat actually occurred in the game that turned me off. People, even today, are always bunny hopping and running around in circles and still shooting with equal accuracy as when they are crouching and still. Not only is this type of gameplay very inaccurate, but it also results in the trenches never being used. Thus, the most distinctive feature of WWI became a mere presence to jump over in the game, or, at best, little interior hot zones when trying to take a flag. I've seen the trenches used in a great way once or twice, and that was only when the enemy has been pushed back to their uncap so that our team had nowhere else to go but to stay and wait for them to come. If the rifles in BF1918 were more FH-style, then there'd actually be a reason for people to take cover, use the trenches, etc. Not just bunny hop. One person in a server proudly stated that people use BF1918 to train for Counterstrike. Not sure if he meant that as a compliment.

So while it was by far my second favorite mod of BF1942 (probably mostly because of the theme of WWI), I was looking forward to seeing it in BF2 because I was sincerely hoping these issues would have been addressed.

We know exactly how you feel, same things happened to us as well recently typically a seasonal thing.
You have to clench your teeth and bear it (we have thats partly the reason why its taken us so long to get to first release in bf2). The best time for recruiting is always over the summer (when schools and unis are on holidays) but then your team will diminish again come September.
