    Battlefield 2 Windows Vista Performance

The guys over at PC Perspective have got their hands on Windows Vista and were eager to see how it affected performance in BF2. Take a look:
Our first series of tests looks at the NVIDIA 8800 GTX and 7900 GTX experienecs under Windows Vista with Battlefield 2. With the 7900 GTX, the gaming experience remains mostly unchanged between Windows XP and Windows Vista as average and minimum frame rates stay within a close margin of each other. The 8800 GTX isn't so lucky, as we see a big drop in performance under Vista at the 2560x1600 resolution where the 100 FPS frame cap can't help as much. Here we see a 28% drop in average frame rate; and even at 1600x1200 the min FPS drops by 23% though the average remains very close to the Windows XP scores.

I love my Mac.... :) Vista hasn't impressed me at all. I'm glad I won't have to deal with it.

I can't see myself bothering with Vista for a while yet, first let the dust settle and hope they sort any problems out. Ridiculous price anyway.

You talk about fanboyism. Then you go and just admit that you're a fanboy type of person.

Seriously though, who can afford a 7900gtx or 8800 anyway?

My 9600xt on windows xp home does just fine.

2560x1600 is just a little bit overkill too.

                    True dat.

My monitor only supports 1280x1024 and that's perfect for me. My 7950GT was still too pricey at 300+

Let's do these tests again when drivers are more developed for Vista

I won't be getting Vista for a long while.

Drivers may have something to do with it, but a while back I read an article that was posted on thehotfix.net. It seems that with the Desktop Window Manager running (I believe it is the process that makes things 3D) it slows down your vid card, and on top of that the coding is changed that was for gaming in XP, so its not built as much for gaming, even though it has DX10. and because of this in some of the earlier tests during the RC1-RTM gaming tests, Vista ran games about 15% slower than XP did...can you tell I tested Vista since the beta 2 stage? lol

Nvidia better get their crap together. If this poor driver support continues, I am dropping my 680i mobo and 8800GTX like a hotcake when the 2900XTX comes out.
