ModLight: Battleracer

EA has released their second modlight article today, this time covering the Battleracer mod. Here's what they had to say:

Have you ever wanted to race with your buddy using the jeeps in Battlefield 2? Now you can thanks to the Sir Community guys! Battleracer is a small mod for Battlefield 2 that makes it a complete racing game while still retaining the Battlefield feeling. While doing this it also takes you down memory lane with some old but appropriate tunes from the past.

The modification uses many of the original maps as race tracks, yet has several custom made maps. The tracks are interesting and use the terrain in imaginative ways. It's entertaining to race through parts of the maps that you don't often see and it gives you a new perspective of original game.

They never bothered to actually interview any of the mod team members, nor did they mention the stats system. Hell, they didn't even link to the damn mod!

Oh well, better than nothing I suppose. Check back in 2008 for the third ModLight!

Sorry if this sounds cynical, but it's painfully obvious that EA/DICE don't care about the modding community. This new update was put up simply because enough people complained. Now they will completely ignore modders once again until somebody complains, then they'll spend another 10 minutes to add another modlight.

Sad too, because this is a fun mod. It is hard to believe that EA can't put out just a little more effort. Because as it is, they put out 'little' as it is already.

And God damn! they have the slowest webservers in the world! WTF are they running, Dell PowerEdge 320s on NT4?

Yes, better than nothing. I bet they'd be "mod lighting" mod's on 2142 if there were any with significant updates/releases. I was surprised they spotlighted a BF2 mod', only because of that reason I expect, there's nothing on 2142 they can spotlight yet.

I tend to dislike all the negativity I usually see people post. But in this case, I seem to feel the same way. They write a few paragraphs that any of us could've wrote in 5 minutes, and call it a day? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

I dunno, they say they were playing in the office which would suggest a LAN game yet its been shown that only conquest mode shows up in the lan server browser and since Battleracer doesnt have conquest mode... i guess they used online accounts so they could use connect to ip, good old BF2.

It would be nice if they would put some effort into it, they dont seem to have even got as far as reading the BR website to grasp some understanding. I diddnt think the cars had rockets because it made it whacky, i thought they had rockets to make the racing a little more fun so when you crash you have a chance of getting back into the race, but we live and learn.

I see in two of the screenshots, Myr4n, who is a DICE guy. But anyway, nice of them to finally release the ModLight, rather than not at all.
