Custom Map Competition

Compumaniac12 from DevFile.com has sent us news of a custom map competition that they are hosting. Details about the competition are below:

In an effort to add a little variety to the BF2 experiance, <a href="http://devfile.com">DevFile.com</a> is starting a Custom Map Competition. Unlike other competitions; we guarantee use of the maps by placing them on our own servers and encouraging others to do the same. There is also a chance that maps will make it into the mods affiliated with Devfile.

<b>Rules:</b>
Anyone may enter any number of maps
You may only submit a map once
The map must be for stock Battlefield2
Must at minimum include Conquest gameplay and 32 player setting
All settings Should play balanced
Maps must be in Final Version

<b>Scoring:</b>
Maps will be rated on:
<b>Balance, Gameplay, and Appearance</b> Going into an overall score.
Judges will be selected by their knowledge of the above topics.

<b> How To Submit:</b>
Send an email to Admin [at] Devfile.com, asking how and where to upload a Zipped Copy of the map.

Mappers, this is your chance to get your map some use, so polish them up and send them in. Submissions must be in by <b>Friday Dec 8th</b>. A warning will go out a few days before the deadline. The final maps will be choosen within a few weeks of the deadline and will be annouced and promoted.

We are going to need judges aswell, so if you have a background in mapping or have played in strategic battles drop us a message saying you can help.

12days??? i dont think anyone can cough up a decent map in 12days unless its like already been made and needs some finishing

I did 4 maps in 10 days lol. You have to have a vision, a plan, and the willingness to execute without delay.

But we might not all have the time that you obviously have, and they wopnt be of the calibar of map that these guys want to try and encourage people to download custom maps.

Extra Information on Map Contest!:

For those thinking that 2 weeks wont be enough time,
We may hold another map contest in the spring, but we can't promise anything yet.

The idea of the contest is to take maps that you've already started, for any purpose. And set them up to fit a public bf2 server setting. Then give them some use!

More info on scoring the maps,
Balance:
Ever played a "match" or "battle", the map should balance for clan like play, but also for public play.
Gameplay:
Its gotta feel good, we know this is very opinionated so we have a very diverse panel of judges.
Appearance:
It has to look good too, trees or sand dunes, or waves of ice, whatever fits the profile.

well, got a map still on the shelf but that deadline is pretty strickt, and all i need to do is balance the gameplay and spit pollish some areas.

Sure u can make a map in a day, but a map is so much better if u take time to develop it properly (im one of those "ill paint the map myself instead of letting a program do it" mappers btw )

12 days to make a map? piff. It takes me just 3-5 days for my PC to do lightmaps for the sort of detail i make maps at.

also whats the prize for the winner? If theres no prize, theres no point cos these maps will hardly be played. No one plays BF2 Custom maps cos you cant put them on "ranked" servers, so it would only get played for a few days max anyways then e just forgotten about....

thou I like the idea of trying to get the community more involved with making custom maps, they are just not a big hit in BF2 cos of ranked servers....
