21st Century Warfare has been using motars in their mod for several months. I think that's what he is alluding to.

The impression of the advertisment implies POE is the first but quite clearly they are not.

Awesome job POE team. If you guys (POE) ever decide to make a Modern war game from the ground up, I will be more than happy to spend the 50 or whatever you will charge for it. At least I know this team will support their product and listens to what people want.

21cw was the first to put mortars in BF2 for there tournament mod out of all mods.

This mod is just awesome, gotta love the variety of ammunition and not to speak about those modified T-tanks
