Recently there was a fairly unheard of, but fairly large mod released that goes by the name Hostile Progression. Here's what they had to say about the release:

HOSTILE PROGRESSION is a mod for BF2, started in june 2006 (4 months ago). We are developping a mod based on French Army in the broad sense. This mod is dedicated to infantry so there is no vehicles with weapons, no commander, no artillery and no drone.
Maps are all made for 16/32/64 players, they have three or four flags maximum, which is below the stantard number of flags compared to the original game. We have called our game mode type "prise de chateau", it's kinda like the original conquest mode but generally the main flag is the hardest to take, the middle flags are just here to help you taking the main flag. HP has adapted the gameplay to force teamplay, the distance between flags gives importance to squads.
A little comments on the mod: we have made a bleeding system. When your life gets to 10%, you'll bleed. You have to find a medic quick or you'll die. The medic class has lost his shock-pads so be carefull, the support class has lost his ammo packs, we have placed cases of ammo on maps.
We currently have official HP servers so you can play our mod with your mates:
