Can the rank icons and medal/badge/ribbon images be changed?

It would be pretty cool if instead of just handing out random medals and badges for accomplishments people could get "specialty" roles by doing good with certain classes. IE: A good K/D ratio as a sniper gives a little sniper icon or something :P
    connection problems : http://www.battlefieldranking.net/op...pic,508.0.html
its fixed. it was a issue that was solved, and announced at the day that 1.3 patch came out. how ironic.
the end of round problems were cause by a 'wrong way' of implementing the stats accepting on our side.
    but again, that's fixed!

About the medals and rank images, mods can change that yes.
it needs an adjustement to the MemeAtlas.
the scoring system is totally customisable thru a web-administration backend.

most modifications to make ABR work, are EXTERNAL, so the mods needs minimal adjustment.
Ofcourse, adjusting the rankimages needs some adjustment in the mod-release.

a good example of example ranks/awards can be found in out Award contest gallery and forum
    (http://www.battlefieldranking.net/op...y/catid,1.html)

this is my personal favorite custom medal, made by a community member.

So yes, we provide the mechanism, to give the meaning 'total-conversion' a whole new twist!

Cool! That answers my questions. I kind of stopped playing PR some months back so I probably missed the fix for the Conn. Problems.

Re: ABR and Patch 1.4 Update

Well I'll step into it this time. I took an interest into Satcom/Jerry Oppenhiemer when he first started posting about ABR and the ranking system he helped make. I was very excited about this, because then my clan could get ranks without having to pay for a ranked server, or pubbing on others.
When he publicly began to attack PoE because they did not want to include his ranking system, ABR peaked my interest even more. Sure competition is great, even when it is free.

This is what I just wanted to state as my opinion.

1st off I would like to think PoE nor FH would touch ABR with a 10 foot pole, even if they where asked to use it by Dice.

Has ABR fixed the issues that plauged it from the first release? IE the lag issues at the end of the round, long map changes, server connection errors and crashes? Yes - apparently they have :) Good Deal we hope!

Has ABR made it more secure against possible hacks?

Has ABR finally gotten a spokesperson who can actually compose a news release with correct grammar and punctuation in a professional manor?

ABR has left alot of people with a sour taste in thier mouths mainly because of the so called "retired Satcom" and his poor judgement and the way he likes to display his conversations publicly and edit them to his suit his own needs. Just like how he edits his interviews using his Jerry Oppenhiemer persona.

Has ABR issued an apology to EA/Dice for the stupid idiotic boycot they helped started against EA/Dice/BF2142 along with all the other immature actions they have done in the past few months, such as spread lies, and information about the mods that want nothing to do with him?

What about how he treated Demize, one of the most respected and helpful members of the BF2 community who is also a Dice developer. Satcom took a general conversation and posted it deliberately in more then one forum just so he could, then proclaimed his innocent because it was posted by "someone else first" he then provided a screenshot of his browser to a page that had a Could not display error on it.

As usual his evidence is nothing more then a blanket lie with no factual base.

When a person reprsents something with pride and dignity, they do not post thier personal opinions on the front page of the site they represent, not have a post in that sites forum with nothing but rant posts against the PoE2 mod.

As a side note, the last time I looked at the mods online, the only Mod that had any large amount of servers/players, or so was PoE2.
          Go figure.

Good Luck ABR/Satcom, from what I have seen you might just need it.

Re: ABR and Patch 1.4 Update

I saw some of the drama that happened a while ago, and have no idea what really happened behind the scenes. I doubt you did either, unless your actually on the POE2 dev team?

It seems the POE2 guys were being very mature here , so is Satcom, and MyIs seems to be happy about that as well. Why you would come in here and throw pooh on a low level make up kiss makes no sense to me at all.

Dont take the bait ABR, stay off his hook.

Your offering a great service for free, just like the mods are, and most of us support you in that.

So does that mean when I play a mod that uses this I'll have a rank over my head and can set personal goals again to get medals etc? Will they show up in game and the awards and stat section??

                        Yes!
Per Ranked 'world' you can set all criteria for medals, ranks, or turn them on or of.

Mods will use there system simply because its hard to make your own and its the only system likely to stay up if EA try and block others again. they have a massive vBF2 world, a massive PRMM world and a number of others (cant find the list at the moment).

Its a lot more successful than any other alternative rank system, in fact its prity much the only alternative rank system out there.

It was server lag at the end of the round and yes it was fixed quite some time ago.

idiotic boycott? there never was a boycott to my knowledge there was however a petition which if it had never been done ABR would still not be fully working today.

Thanks for the link satcom. :)

Bah, a bad copy of a bad stats system - the bf2stats system (do you remember bighamster?) was much better for players and server admins.

                            - ABR is closed system, engulfed in mystery and hidden in shadows (OMG, they stole our sources!!!1!), bf2stats is open source. What if ABR demands subscription for it's services from participating server admins? Or decides to pull the plug?

                            - the servers in bf2stats system didn't crash when processing EOR results :)

                            - is it better to know I died 1234 times while holding an assault rifle or that M16 killed me 100 times, AK-101 123 times, SU-27 bombs 200 times and artillery 300 times? That I died while holding a defibrilator 100 times or that a defibrilator killed me 10 times?

                            - there's less greed in players if ranks and stats aren't shown in game. Less greed - more teamplay, enjoyment etc. No wonder why PoE2 chose this kind of stats tracking system instead of ABR. Based on the screenshot of their stats system it looks like they're tracking the bf2stats way.

                            - if stats of a server or a group of servers are tracked on a web page the people that are interested in them will gather there, thus increasing the feeling of a community.

                            - less servers/players in a system = less problems. An example: who will determine which maps and gamemodes are allowed? Is there already a need for ABRROE officers and snitches?

Last, but not the least: the ABR system leaders have way too many clashes with server admins.

Yes i remember Big Hamster, in the early days, i actually release the addon that mad your ranks show up ingame with those bighamsterstats.
Despite the fact that bighamsterstats is a very nice system, it had limitations for the idea's i had and still have.

                              - ABR is closed system, engulfed in mystery and hidden in shadows (OMG, they stole our sources!!!1!), bf2stats is open source. What if ABR demands subscription for it's services from participating server admins? Or decides to pull the plug?
With the OK from EA/DICE, come rules.
Have you ever wondered why the 'Ranking deterrent' was applied in 1.3, and still is in 1.4?
We simply CANNOT ask subscribtion fees, or make money otherwise with the system. it will break the eula, and our agreement with EA/DICE

the Lifetime for ABR BF2 network infrastructure is set to 5 years. )
Carefully reading our forums, or communicate with the developers, will learn that ABR is Partial-OpenSource. this is with a reason! ( security, integrety, cheaters and possible decentralizations )

                              - the servers in bf2stats system didn't crash when processing EOR results :)
Explain? - to my knowledge, all BF2 servers crashed till patch 1.4
can you enlighten me on this specific abr failure?

                              - is it better to know I died 1234 times while holding an assault rifle or that M16 killed me 100 times, AK-101 123 times, SU-27 bombs 200 times and artillery 300 times? That I died while holding a defibrilator 100 times or that a defibrilator killed me 10 times?
Thats not up to me to decide.
                              again ABR is 100% customisable.

                              - there's less greed in players if ranks and stats aren't shown in game. Less greed - more teamplay, enjoyment etc. No wonder why PoE2 chose this kind of stats tracking system instead of ABR. your conclusions are based on a HTML page?!
If you dont want BFHQ stats in ABR, the world owner can turn it off!

                              - if stats of a server or a group of servers are tracked on a web page the people that are interested in them will gather there, thus increasing the feeling of a community.
Yes, your are right, and therefore, you can interface with the ABR system just like BF2s.com does with the real EA rankings.
So, all you have to do is grab a BF2 statistics webscript, point it to ABR, and implement it in your clan/tournament pages.
with some scripting knowledge, and creativity you can pull all the info from ABR what you want.... stats per country, per continent, per server, or per world....
we are NOT hosting any stats-page for your world/tournaments. this is entirely the world-owners responsibility. we provide a stats-engine - you have to build the casco around it.

                              - less servers/players in a system = less problems. An example: who will determine which maps and gamemodes are allowed? Is there already a need for ABRROE officers and snitches?
                              Another truth!
our public world, unfortunatly has cheaters and stats-padders.
Luckily our friends over at BF2RS, are willing to help us out with that.
meanwhile, we wrote a padder analyzer script, that catches/monitors stats-padders, which might even be used by BF2RS for the real EA Ranked system.

but, every 'World-owner' is in control of his own world. he plays the role of 'EA' in that specific world.
Allowing custom maps/gamemodes is their task.
therefore community effort is the key to run a succesfull world, with minimal padding/cheating.
ABR is not responsible for what happens in YOUR ranked world, you are.

Last, but not the least: the ABR system leaders have way too many clashes with server admins.
That might be true, but there are also MANY people that have a different expirience with the ABR admins.
so i'll leave that to everybodies own judgement.

finally, a New ABR News Update: http://www.battlefieldranking.net/Ne..._released.html
