    Community Update - 9/5/06

First and foremost is the news many of you have been hoping for – the long awaited 1.4 patch for Battlefield 2 goes live today. After much anticipation the new patch featuring the new "Road to Jalalabad" map which is sponsored by Comcast is available for download. We deeply appreciate everyone’s patience during this patch cycle and look forward to playing with you on the new map!

Meanwhile in the Battlefield 2142 tuning beta we are working at a furious pace to incorporate player feedback into our development. Players have commented on all aspects of 2142. From the dynamic new Hover Tank to our new Titan game mode players are making themselves heard. We are pleased that we have already taken steps to improve client and server stability while also making changes to the game experience directly based on player feedback, in game play tactics, and (of course) use of exploits. All of our efforts with the Tuning Beta are to ensure this next step for Battlefield raises the bar for team based FPS games everywhere.

The recently announced Veterans Program gives everyone who has played Battlefield 2 the ability to reserve a soldier name and receive an immediate boost in rank so that they are able to hit the field running. Many of you have established an identity as premiere players on the sandy streets of Karkand or in the skies above Wake Island. This is your opportunity to continue building your legacy in a whole new Battlefield! Veterans also receive an exclusive in-game indicator of their Veterans status and a special verbal taunt in BF2 together with patch 1.4.

That's so sneaky, giving us incentive to stay with the Battlefield franchise. Ooooh, it's so evil, so calculating....

LOL, if you can even get to your "reserved" name in the first place. GG EA for making this work!

So has anyone figured out how to do the verbal taunt in BF2 yet for those of us that were able to register?

well after reading that community update i guess i'll have to buy 2142 then....not. seriously do they think that by releasing the patch and then mentioning 2142 that we're all gonna be in a big euphoric state because they released the patch after 3 damn months that we're gonna rush out and preorder 2142..they can blow me after the way they have treated us with the news blackout in the last 3 months.
                    EA games..pfff.

                      Ditto lads,

1.4 has failed...miserably....but hey, lets all buy the MOD (that is, "modification") Bf2142 and support EA/Dices' shoddy customer service policy.

                      ...I don't think so...

Maybe if EA/Dice will release another 500 MB patch to fix the minigun we will jump on the "let's market/buy Bf2142" bandwagon. Then again, probably not.

                      Keep trying marketeers!!!!

                      Sincerely,

                        WHAT A JOKE!

                        seriously EA/DICE... blow me.

you started off good and have done nothing but a mockery out of this whole series. I don't know what batch of retarded 12 year olds you listened to, but you have done nothing but break stuff and disregard the serious issues that surround this game and the community that supports it.
BUY 2142?!?! at first i was laughing at the idea, at the first run of the beta i thought, well hey... what a nifty idea. But as always you take a decent idea and stop just over the borderline of uncreativity.
And then ... to my suprise of not being suprised... version 2 of the beta comes out and crashes 10x as much as Betav1... wtf gives? I know it's a beta but when your second release is less stable and less playable than the initial release and your previous game still suffers from numerous patches that do nothing but break **** and change game play to catter to a bunch of nitwits that are all bitter because we're doing something like jumping.....or using a gernade launcher... or they keep spawning where a heli is hovering. Why should we, the community that embraces strategy and thinking and teamwork be punished for the lack of thought process by others? Simply put... CS has been out for god knows how long... and there really havent been too many changes. and guess what.. OMG! PEOPLE ARE STIIIILLLLL PLAYING! i wonder why.. hmm maybe because THAT'S your community...those are your people... those of us who liked your ideas at one time and wished to play them for ungodly durations. But no... you turn your back on us and appeal to the crusty nose picking snoody brats that'll drop your game as soon as QW is released.. or another title.

On top of all this... you have brought upon the death of what i believe was possibly the best FPS series ever... by your lack of regard for the true community. And then again by releasing new game after new game after new game. This is sick... It's like the 'I know what you did last summer' trilogy... It makes me want to vomit. Maybe one day you'll realize that your community is truely disgusted by your actions and then maybe you can start working on winning us over again. But until then... You can keep your reskinned, rebundled, buggy, unplayable games. OUT.

                          “WHAT A JOKE!”

SyNn3r hit the nail on the head….really EA and/or Dice you can eat my A** with a spoon. Sorry to be so crude and blunt but I have had my fill. When your community has to relearn your whole game after every buggy patch is released. Constant changes to game play mechanics that did not need to change in the first place. You could have been focusing your powers on actual exploits and bugs, oh like the Red Tag issue that you finally “Fixed.” I remember this promise about 2 to 3 patches ago but I guess trying to keep the monkey programmers happy with bananas was too hard.
You have had great games in the past and even started off on the right foot for Battlefield 2 but for some reason, unknown to us all, you have started selective listening to people that all have bad ideas. I am pretty sure that all talks regarding changes in BF2 are either decided by dart board or a jump to conclusions floor mat. Instead of having polls on what is the major issues and what you would like to change before just randomly changing things and going SURPRISE!!
Hmmm…what can I say about you new expansion/booster pack 2142. I call it that because I can not consider it a new game because it still fills like a remake of BF2 but with more shine added in. Since your current support record with BF2 is questionable I have been very hesitant to even think about buying this product. I have been playing your beta but I have had very mixed reviews through the whole process. I know that a beta of a game is hardly a good thing to base off ideas for what the main product may become but from what that has been happening so far with “Nerfing” tactics, I would say we are going to have another BF2 style support system in place quicker than you can say “Connection Problems.” Talking about connection problems man what is up with v2 of the 2142 Beta? You can barely finish 1 round before the server resets or connection problems make it so everyone on the server disconnects. One night I think I played on 20 servers and 99.9% of the time you would get disconnected and lose any awards and rank you just earned.
Please let’s stop talking about releasing patches to a game until you are completely finished. We know you can not stick to the actual dates that someone else imposes on you so why try to fake it and then go sorry we don’t have the patch done. Keep us informed of what you would like to change and keep intact. Create surveys and polls within the community forums to get everyone’s opinion on what they think needs to be changed. Create articles and other helpful sources of information so that we fill like you what to help.

Well that is my opinion anyways you may like it or hate it but it is still just my opinion.

OK... now that i've vented, i think i can throw one idea out there. So that this isn't nothing but nag nag nag.

Instead of ingame product placement with silly 'veteran program' ads and what not.. how about you do a poll... oh what's this... a poll that actually requires you to have an account aka...reason to state change desired/requested.

Oh and the poll ties in w/ your user account so that you can tell who's played for 1,000 hours vs 100 hours. i do believe that us that have played the game more technically should have more right to decline/approve change than the person that's only played 20 hours.

So you log in and up comes a box.. "Should c4 tossing be removed?"
option 1,2,3 and send... It's easy, better than relying on forums for your future changes.

Excellent Idea. But I don't think EA/Dice are concerned about the Veterans; they would rather try to win over as many 100 hr "buy and drop" noobs to fill the coffers. Sad... Its all about the money, no heart...
