Re: Point of Existence Mod Update #79.5

It seems passwording the file did good and bad. It drove a couple places to crash I think because of the intense overload and some admins begged to have it released for the sake of their server.

Created a lot of hype though.

POE is...interesting. Mostly because it is not BF2. The haze, poor visibility and green-brown color-scheme appears refreshingly different at first, but it is fatiguing on the eyes and make sit hard to appreciate the work that's gone into the models.

The gun-sounds, while different, are too loud and so are the voice-overs. The vehicles still take an unseemly amount of damage just going over the terrain as well.

Nice to see that the guns can actually hit something, for a change - however the coax and mounted MG's have very poor accuracy and are virtually useless at range - considering that soldiers can hop and sprint/stop/sprint all the same.

Higher foliage favors the infantry and armored vehicles are fairly useless on the forest maps - everyone and their brother carries the AT gear.

Too bad that no work has gone into smacktard-prevention. People still spam the same stupid messages over and over - would've been nice if the voice-overs was suppressed in those cases.

Hard to see why the M1 was remodelled - by and large it acts like the regular BF2 version and it still can't climb up a 10% incline without "soaping around". Especially on the forest-maps it would have been nice if the MBTs had some advantage in the terrain - a 2 year old sapling of a tree stops it dead in it's tracks.

Despite these design-flaws and odd priorities, it is still a fresh breath of air. It has potential to become a decent...even good..mod, as far as mods goes. The small-arms are nice and there is a good variety.

        Cheers :-)

No wait just a minute. I've played about 5 maps all 64, and I have yet to find the map that has hundreds of every vehicle imaginable right at the team base. Where'd the old POE go?

Remember that dessert map in the BFV version? I think it was El Dabba or something. Anyway, there was like, 10 transport vehicles, 10 armor, 5 helicopters and 3 airplanes. And seeing as how there was no cover except for buildings all the vehicles were destroyed by ambushes if not prepared. That was awesome. I do however like the new no vehicle map they have in the BF2 version.

While this post just looks very nice, I just got the feeling that you were trying to cram as much content and threw anything into it. And I'm not sure how sounds and vehicle damage goes into the same paragraph.

I'll note that I've not even played the mod, so I'll just cover what I do know.

Anywho, as far as sounds go, the audio menu in your options is not there to just look pretty. Not to mention that most audio systems come with a volume control. This issue seems pretty bunk.

Don't know if you played the Swamp maps back before they were removed (Which I still in the back of my head hate the guts out of the POE team for), but when you got into a vehicle, you found the largest group of people on foot and moved with them like nails on wood, even if they really didn't want you to. This gave you better odds of them getting to the enemy first than you.

Radio spamming is one of those things that is built in and not easy to change, if you can at all. You can't make someone not press a button on their keyboard if they really want to. I would suspect this also ties into your sound problem.

Asking why the M1A1 was remodeled is ridiculous. This mod, by claim, is a total conversion. Most people take this quite literally. That and you have the art styles of the modelers to take into consideration, and the need to streamline them together to create a proper visual style.

And while you may not have intended it, your last comment was an insult of sorts, calling the mod bellow even what you consider decent, which from POE's track record, I find considerably hard to be true. Unless you are some kind of elite.

its ok i suppose, TV missiles on APC's dont kill tanks instantly (stupid), and there is a major bug, i just came off a server where i was upclose to this guy, emptied 3 mags into him and knifed him 5 times and still no death, he did the same to me... havent even seen this in bf2.
