It seems that this game will be what BF2 was meant to be when it was first announced...I'll bet the enviroments arn't destructable at all, like with BF2...still, one can hope...
I figured that I might as well try to talk about the actual topic, so here is some information about the game from the mag.
Instead of trying to capture multiplayer in a single player game, with features like hotswapping (which really took out alot of immersion; a matter of identity crisis, you could say.), it says here that they are tryin to go for a more traditional story telling theme.
Battlefield:BC is going to cover the story of 4 AWOL squadmates, with a more complex and adult-ish story. Though while they producer was held back from giving too much of the story away, he did say that while they all had their own personal reasons, alot of it simply revolves around money, and of course, greed.
They do admit that Modern Combat 360 is somewhat of a red headed stepchild to them, stating that for the hardware it was on, they could have done so much more. (Though this applies to almost all developers getting their feet wet in new hardware. They always never really know quite what to do at first.)
All the screens came from the game itself, and not snapshots of a movie. So they were looking at the actual game when they previewed it. Nothing was pre-rendered. Though I don't think anyone really expected that, considering the hardware. They said that when looking at one of the tanks, they were hard struck to find anything that had any kind of "bump mapped on" look. It's sence of scale and immense detail instilled a slight sence of fear, they stated.
Oh, sure, you may say that it's just a game, how can a tank be scary. But go play any well-to-do horror game. When a certain scale of immersion is reached, you can be afraid of a tank. I remember getting so wrapped up into sessions of Desert Combat, I'd about give myself heart attacks just from being shot.
Another very interesting thing to help immerse the player is how the player himself reacts to the world around him. Say an explosion goes off to your left. Your head and body will whip to the right. They say that this is simulated by the in-game bodies, and not just simply animations, and that they just stick the camera on to go for the ride. That when running, your camera is not just jerking about because it has been told to do so, but because your body is animated as such.
This also ties into how you fire your weapon. For instance, when in burst fire, your first shot will be the most accurate. As you fire more, your body will lean into the rifle butt to adjust recoil, and then move forward slightly when you stop firing and the recoil ends.
On the subject of destructable enviroments, one example they gave of where this comes into play was when they were faced with a enemy tank. They frist picked up an AT4 and got to the second floor of a near by building. As they got into a good position, the tank fired a shell and obliterated the wall, hitting them with debris. Then then retreated from the building, room by room, as the tank simply kept sending shells in, blowing up the place as they went.
Of course, there will be a 24 multiplayer compenent, and that it will not be half assed. Most all the features of single player will go into online play. Yes, even destructable enviroments.
I think people should be really interested in this, as this also gives us a preview of what to come with the next PC game in the franchise (Battlefield 3, as they have called it.)
Stop complaining about the ****ing 1.4 realse dates you ****wits. If they release it before its ready it will be another 1.3, which you ***** and moan about how they should of waited and all that ****. I can't beleive that suck stupid people exist on planet. Go back to pizza hut.
AMEN!!! See what happens when everything goes "on-demand" and people forget what it's like to wait for anything...

Nice post. Sounds like it will be worth picking up. MC is actually a decent FPS as far as consoles go. I'd like it more if it were mouse and keyboard but it was fun for quite a while.
