The team behind the Point of Existence 2 mod is back today with a new update to show. As always, they have some new in game media for us along with some new features set in place. Take a look:
Great to see a stat system in place and working on this mod. To see more, visit their site here.
In our last news posting we commented that we would discuss some of our server backend development. It’s been very important to us to make POE:2 as a complete package that caters to all types of gamers. EA/Dice has done a great job with making their ranking system for BF:2 and we realize that there are a lot of gamers that play the game for this feature. Stating that we’ll begin by discussing what Kmkz & Melugo have been working on since they joined the team last year. The team discussed this thoroughly and decided that instead of having a “ranking/award” system that we would prefer to have a statistical system that keeps track of your POE:2 playing history. POE:2 Gamers will be able to view their stats through a nice easy-to-use website which we will be providing to the community.
<a href="http://www.totalbf2.com/images.php?img=http://images.totalbf2.com/news/stats1.jpg"><img src="http://images.totalbf2.com/news/thumb_stats1.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a> <a href="http://www.totalbf2.com/images.php?img=http://images.totalbf2.com/news/stats2.jpg"><img src="http://images.totalbf2.com/news/thumb_stats2.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>
All of the internet-based POE:2 servers will have the ability to send statistics collected during the round back to a central server through the tools developed by Kmkz. Two executables have been created to create a secure environment for stats collection and at the same time allow any internet-enabled server to be "ranked". The first is a command-line application that will work on either Linux or Windows and will load a specially formatted configuration file and load the server based on the directives given within. This application also integrates an updating system (to allow for faster server-side patching and bugfixing) and a content-checking system (to keep all servers as uniform as possible, and to prevent any hacking). The other tool developed by Kmkz is a C#.NET front-end written for Windows computers to act as a replacement for BF2's BF2ServerLauncher.exe. It will allow easy editing of the configuration file, support the new POE-specific directives, and work in conjunction with the command-line launcher to provide the easiest and most efficient possible server administration.

We understand that not all server hosts will allow full desktop connectivity for people that rent thier game servers from them. To allow the PoE:2 game administrators to take advantage of the tools that Kmkz has developed, Kmkz has been working with Brandon from BF2CC to develop POE2CC. They are working hard to get this done and have it available when we release POE:2.
Next up is some of Squirrelly’s initial work that he did for our Level Designers. Something he was able to complete quickly was creating new vegetation sprites that we could use on our maps.

The other screens we are showing are items that have been included in our most recent internal build. One item that we forgot to show off a while back is the Russian made PP-2000. Then our Vepr assault rifle with grenade launcher. The last thing to show in today’s news is the Wolf vehicle that will be transporting the German team around. This was coded by Raptor, our learning "intern."
