Notice how it was just targeted at BF2 and not Counter strike, where you actually play as terrorists half the time...

        Dear Sir,

Recently I've heard on ABC news about a report presented to the house intelligence committee on the videogame Battlefield 2. The utter ignorance exposed in this report is nothing short of jaw-dropping. First off, the "experts" claim that an add-on was needed to play as insurgent forces to kill Americans. This is not true. No matter what the experts tell you. You can easily click the "MEC" tab and fight for a fictitious "Middle-East Coalition" along with up to 31 other players (human beings) against up to 32 other players fighting for the USMC (United States Marine Corps, in case the experts didn't tell you). If the $7 million dollar group spent even 30 seconds reading the game's box, they would have understood this. Secondly, google internet search by a 5th grader could easily have proven that the opening sequence of the "terrorist recruiting game" was stolen from the satirical film "Team America: World Police". Additionally, the $7 million team that issued the report does not seem to be able to comprehend the difference between someone making a movie of a video game and an actual videogame. Moreover, the film itself was of terrible quality. The audio was poor, the action dull, and the editing sub-par. The only real motivation the movie fosters is to hit the stop button. That's this expert's psychological evaluation of it. Since congress is getting in the habit of taking totally unqualified people's analysis, I figured I'd give mine.

As an avid computer gamer, who regularly plays Battlefield 2, I find the spectacle of hyper-ventilating bureaucrats inflating a leisure-time videogame into a terrorist threat hilarious. Yet, as a citizen, I find the unforgivable incompetence of the people tasked with defending me terrifying. The pentagon and their private contractors are not only wasting $7 million in our tax dollars but doing great damage to national security by diverting attention from real threats.

It is obvious from their report that this $7 million group has no idea what the hell they are talking about, to put it kindly. For the good of the country, all the "experts" should be fired immediately or pointed in a direction where they may actually have some experience. Perhaps they should be in charge of fertilizer subsidies, because they already have shown their proficiency with ********.

        With great concern,
        Nathan Freeman
I wonder if they respond what they will say. I think they wont take this one letter serious until they start getting more letter about this issue we should get the whole forum to right letters.

This is conservatism to its highest degree. They see any game in which you can kill american forces as a terrorist, and it is immediately a terror training video. No wonder we're losing the war with such bright minds at the pentagon.

I call Bullsh*t on that. For one, the guy said you have to register and pay 25 dollars to play as an insurgent. That almost sounds exactly like Special Forces and the EA downloader. Two, the guy said it was a mod, but that was false. It was a movie. Three, what moronic terrorist website, would have people pay for their propoganda? Propoganda is most effective when it's free.

So are you that naive to believe they actually found that on a terrorist recruiting website? We have proof they lied in that testimony. I have no reason to believe anything else they said was true. They just tried to justify wasting 7 million dollars of our money. Plain and simple.

guys dont take this seriously.... this is the same group that assumed years ago that the atari game "frogger" would cause young children to play in the street and attempt to dodge oncoming traffic.

How can we not take it seriously that 7 milion dollars were wasted, and what should be actual hunting for terrorist websites, turn out to be the most misguided, most ill informed venture, since this war on terror? As Americans, we should all be worried by the shear incompetence of our government. We're not any safer! Not with these idiots running the show!

What exactly is the point of this hearing? If terrorists use Battlefield 2 as a propaganda tool, so what? What would they do about it? Ban the game? Censor it somehow?

If you censor/ban BF2 for this reason, then couldn't you conceivably also ban things as varied as Das Boot, Counter-Strike and Saving Private Ryan? They all have American soldiers/seamen being blown away by foreigners. In fact, if any one of those video games or movies was poorly edited into a satirical short film, they'd be the same as Sonic Jhad's.

I'm just curious as to why this discovery warranted a congressional hearing.

WHAAAAAAT!?!?!? $7 million?? They should have given this money to our country . OMG! Their stupidity is worth $7 million! This is a new world record. We should put them in a Guiness World Record book under "The biggest amount of foolishly wasted money".

Other people have to deal with the concequences, that statistically DO happen, when these precautions aren't taken.

Know why most states want motorcyclists to wear helmets? Do you really think the state's worried about their wellfare? No. It's just that brains are really hard to wash out of asphalt.

Seriously though (I was joking), these things are catalysts. If you see a driver holding a cellphone to their head, that means they're driving with one hand. It's physically impossible to have complete control over your vehicle with just one hand. Does that mean everyone drives with two hands all the time when they're not on their cell phones? Of course not. And of course people talk to each other when they're in a car. But it's a visual alert to the police that you aren't in complete control over your vehicle, and it's proof.

Driving tired is illegal too. So is driving angry (aggressive driving usually occurs). It's not about taking rights away. It's just the general check and balance system of living in a society. It's not going away. Deal with it.

That said, I generally drive with one hand on the bottom part of the steering wheel, and I zone out quite often. I'm not a safe driver, so I'm not being elitist here. Also, I talk on my cellphone while I drive. It's just that I turn the speakerphone function on and lay it in my lap.

The government has been trying to regulate videogames for many many years. They already regulate the movie and music industry, as well as radio and television. And videogames are already regulated as well. But as long as our elected officials enjoy the pleasures of alcohol, tobacco, and strip clubs themselves, we can be sure that we, as regular blue collar folk, can enjoy the same carnal pleasures.

Frag away. It's your American Right (TM).

The laws regarding cellphones, helmets, seatbelts.....is how it all starts. Apparently harmless govenment intervention. Next thing you know theyre putting Onstar in your vehicle, electronic monitoring devices in your kids, and taking away cash in favor of 'debit' cards so they can track your spending.

                        Oh wait...they already are.

Men who give up liberties for the sake of freedom deserve neither liberty or freedom.

If you're referring to Franklin, then its actually "Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

If you're not, then your quote just doesn't make sense

But i wholeheartedly agree. When people start making sacrifices for "safety," bad things have always happened. It goes back to Caesar and his theft of the Roman republic, up to Hitler, and if we're not careful, the United States.
