    Tactical Mod v1.2 Features Announced

The team behind the Tactical Mod have contacted us today with a list of new features that will be within their next release, v1.2. Here's what they had to say:
Tactical Gamer, the premier gaming site for team based and tactical gameplay announces new features for the upcoming 1.2 version of Tactical Mod for Battlefield 2. Updates to this Tactical Gamer community driven project include:

    • Removed audible notification when friendly CP neutralized
    • Added additional seats to heavy jeeps
    • Decreased volume of distant vehicle and weapon sounds
    • Increased the sniper rifle accuracy
    • Increased M24 damage
    • Restored death scoring
    • Increased flag capture radius
    • Removed flag capture meter (under mini-map)
    • Changed flag capture logic so that a flag can only be raised when there are no enemy in the capture radius
    • Increased AT mine damage
    • Added new visual effects for aircraft wrecks (thanks Djukel!)
    • Added support for new maps from Tactical Mod Map Pack 1

Also included in the upcoming version of the mod also includes 4 new maps for Battlefield 2:

    • Checkpoint Abadan
    • Steel Thunder
    • Maszarqi Siege
    • Jibbel City

Be sure to look for Tactical Mod v1.2 to be available by mid-June 2006. To learn more about this mod, visit their site here.

The tactical mod sounds like a good concept and I've kept up with their updates but what's the point in releasing updates if nobody even plays the mod? The one server - TacticalGamer's server, never has people in it. On their website they don't list their Tactical Mod server in their server list. Their vanilla BF2 server is usually populated though. Even their members prefer to play vanilla over the Tactical Mod!

From their lack of effort in promoting their mod I'd be willing to bet that the Tactical Mod is just a scheme to get people to check out their website and join their community. Get it seen on news posts every couple of months and bam! Instant traffic.

Yeah, I agree. Good concept... but if the members of TG don't even play it I doubt any community members will catch on.

Re: Tactical Mod v1.2 Features Announced

The Tactical Gamer community has a wide interest when it comes to Battlefield 2. We have dedicated Tactical Mod Nights on Thursdays and Sundays where we host the mod on our server #1 (which is listed on our server list). These are the nights that TG packs the server. The other nights we do host the mod on our secondary server just so players can jump on and become accustomed to the new features.... and for those spur of the moment mod urges.

We're not trying to be the next big BF2 mod. Rather we're catering to the style of play at Tactical Gamer. Our goals are pretty simple:
            1. Create a framework & environment where players feel immersed in the battle.
            2. Promote the execution of planned squad-based strategy & tactics.
            3. Balance classes, kits, and vehicles.
            4. Provide a near-simulation / realistic experience.

Re: Tactical Mod v1.2 Features Announced

Asch makes a good point about Tactical Mod being something of a special event instead of having regularly populated servers. Join us on any Thursday or Sunday night, starting around 8 PM ET to see what Tactical Mod is all about. Join a squad with |TG| tagged members and tell them you're new to Tactical Gamer. You should receive a warm welcome along with your initial orders. In future public announcements, we'll make sure to be clear that Tactical Mod is played as a special event on Thursday and Sunday nights. Sorry for the confusion! :)

Yeah, that sounds like a great idea, man.

The Tactical Mod is a really great concept. Basically it's "this is the way BF2 should have been" for the realism nuts :) I never knew that there were gaming nights that you could actually play the mod in though. It's definately something you should advertise in the news posts rather than just "Hey look! We made a mod!"

Sovetskeey.... We'll definitely try to make sure we highlight the nights we play for every announcement moving forward. That's a great point!
