"I am really starting to get annoyed by the DCON dev team. They are releasing all these new things when they should be releasing a small portion of the mod, then update with patches like USI. DCON needs to release soon,"

Re: Desert Conflict Mod Update - CH-53

I understand and agree with the notion of waiting to release the mod until it's past the beta stage, but I've been playing vanilla BF2 for a year now and I want so badly to go back to the gameplay of Desert Combat I could cry. DC had the speed, manuverability, and skill reward that totally offset the shortcomings of BF42 and I'm holding my breath that DCon does the same for BF2. And DCon has been teasing us for how long with images of the AC-130? -a gameplay concept item that isn't being used by anyone else and absolutely made El Alamein and Gazala the best experiences in the history of EVER.

Right now I'm just hoping and praying that DCon is released as far enough in advance of BF2142 so that I can enjoy it to the fullest before people jump ship for the next generation.

Eagerly, EAGERLY anticipating this. I'll play it to death even in BETA if it promises the same fun of DC.

Re: Desert Conflict Mod Update - CH-53

Being on previous mod teams before, seeing from experience and the popularity of DC for 1942, it would be best to release what you have early. You first want to get the community involved and show them what there is in store.
A few problems with the concept of waiting until it's done:
            1) People will be moving on to other games and it will be too late to get the full amount of community involvement.
            2) The mod will be so large that many of the people who want to play it will not want to wait a day to download it.
            3) There's always a chance of the modders getting tired of what they are doing because they aren’t getting any feedback on their work and they move on to other things. Then parts that should have been in the mod do not get incorporated.

The best option, in my opinion, is to release early and let the community test it. That's the best way to troubleshoot things. When you make something, there's always that chance that you miss some error. Unless the team is almost done with it now and only has a couple months to release the whole thing, then wait. But if you have a ways to go and have all this stuff already, release it and patch as you go. Most people don't complain about problems with mods as they do with the actual game. The community understands that it's still in beta.

That's just my opinion, but the game has already been out a year and the new stuff is right around the corner. Watching the gamespy stats, BF2 keeps losing people more and more often as time goes by.

You're damned if you do...damned if you don't. I personally think rushing a project out only brings too many negative comments that could be avoided if you hold back and fixed the issues. Myself I don't even like seeing ppl release unskinned models and such...you just get people saying that it looks bland...lol. Hello....its not skinned. lol

Can't wait to get some audio on that big ol chopper...

hmmmm obviously you havent been on a BF2 modteam before

Im sorry - but this is a totally different ballgame. The only people who say "release early" are really the people who havent got a grasp of what is actually involved with making a bf2 mod. Give up trying to convince these guys (or anyone for that matter) to release early - its like a 13 yr old telling his mum to "take dinner out of the oven now - i'll just chew it harder" YOU WONT ENJOY THE MOD AND SUBSEQUENTLY ALL THE PAST EFFORTS GO TO WASTE! Take a look at what happened to bfv and 1942 mods that released early - their forums were bombarded with complaints over bugs and the fanbase didnt stick around for a "fix" - heck even DC did poorley with its first rushed release. Take a tip from the past - first impressions last. If you really had that much modding exp, you would know that I hear people bringing up mods that have been released "early" and let me tell you - they are now suffering from the follies of impatience and rushed release... I am glad the good mods are holding off release - quality will shine through.

but seriously - i am not even going to bother fighting this argument with people who have no experience in this process. Find me one mod leader who hasnt released their mod yet that will agree with your "opinion"... good luck The three points you mentioned have been bantered by many others before - they are old and quite frankly misinformed arguments. Get some patience or Get over it! If you cant wait - then dont. I'm sure they wont miss you.

Really guys, stop with your polite tricks to get earlier releases, the poor moders loose time explaining why is not a good idea. Most of the actual BF2 moders are veterans of BF42 or BfV moding, with years of experience and we learned the mistakes done in these 4 years: rushed releases (and too delayed releases also, BTW), fanbases flaming all day night long the bugs of a rushed release or the boring 3 only maps or demo map, then the promises "just release it, I will not complain about the bugs" will be forgotten, it's simply not true, players will complain and likely they will not bother to download the second release.

1 year to release a first version is pretty reasonable for any mod with an ambitius scope, and more in an engine so complicated to mod like BF2 is

I am in no way trying to MAKE anyone release something if they don't want to. This is one of the first posts I have made dealing with any TC mod for this game. As I stated, I was just making a comment on what I have seen. No one wants to see 1.5 to 2 years of hard work go down the drain due to lack of planning. I could care less when they release it. I will be playing ET Quake wars by then. :yay:

Then you are not the target audience of a mod, mods are done for fanatics, not for casual players. There is still people playing DC or FH (in a 4 years old engine) and still more playing CS or DoD for the Prehistoric Half Life 1. It's a love with no conditions and no new bright and flashy game will ruin this passion.

The users of mods are guys who try the new game in market but his/her MOD is always installed in the most beloved and defragmented hard drive of the computer

LOL, that's usually what people who can't afford new upgrades say. Why is HL1 such a huge game still??? Well, have you played it lately? First off, it's mostly young kids and hackers that still play; Second, it's one of the most easily accessible games to get your hands on due to low cost, if any; and Third, the game can be played on any computer because of it's simplicity. Who are those that can't upgrade? Young kids whose parents won't buy them a computer with $800 worth of video card hardware to play a new game that is most likely rated something they can't even play. College students who just need a computer to write word programs on but don't have the money to spend on a system that will play newer games. Why is Wolf: ET and AA towards the top of the list? Same thing. A free program that doesn't take an upgrade of your computer to play.

Since when are mods made for only fanatics and not casual gamers? ...WTF??? If we only had fanatics playing the mods, we would only have about 1000 people playing. (The number that are still playing bf 1942 at this moment)

lol go have fun in your plastic-fantastic futuristic-fantasy land with your railguns and hover copters... we hardly feel threatened by quake wars. the rest of us will stick to real world situations based in the realm of reality thanks

haha why am i so aggressive? - I'm just sick of hearing randoms telling mod teams what they should do... without being fully aware of the circumstances surounding their development. Comment on what they have gracefully shown you - not their release date.

                                ^^^EXACTLY my point.

I understand that the game will be amazing when it comes out, and like Brian, I hope it will do the same to BF2 what DC did to BF42.

But, DCON give updates just about twice a week of things and I can tell it's getting close.

I am also looking at this from a Team admin perspective. My team is losing so many players because Vanilla BF2 is dead and I was hoping that DCON would be out to save it. The problem I'm encountering is that BF2 died too early, DCON is coming out too late, or maybe both, I don't know.

When DCON comes out, if my team is able to get players and recruits like DC, and DCON saves BF2, take all the time you need. I am just hoping that people wont give up on BF2 because the main game is dead.
