i have waited months for either desert conflict or USI to come out and u guys won so please!! help me
You need the client files, download the extract using winrar (google it). Right click the download amd select extract to USI_0.1 or whatever the download file name is, that'll extract it to a folder wherever the the download is located.
Then, simply go into the newly created folder and double click the USI exe file, then 'install mod'. Dont forget to tick the 'create desktop shortcut' box otherwise you wont have one!

This should help anyone thats unfamiliar with extracting/installing.....

              Re: US Intervention v0.1 Released

After playing this mod for several hours, I think it's safe to write a mini-review.

Aside from the initial (Terrain in Graphics must be set to Medium) hickup I experienced, the mod started fairly smoothly. The presentation features in this game are absolutely amazing, including nice intro videos, and a plethora of special effects on maps. The gameplay is based around the 91' Gulf War, and perhaps some of the present conflicts occurring in Iraq.

Simply put, this is the best and probably will stay as the best vehicular mod in BF2. There are tons of ground variation vehicles, such as TOW jeeps, AA jeeps, Bradley APCs/AAs, and tons of varying tanks. I never really noticed any difference in terms of firepower between Iraqi & American firepower. Some neat additions such as music-toting transport vehicles, and zooming in with .50 CALs were exclusive additions.

Unfortunately, as with any vehicular-based mod, the overall "battlefield" experience suffers. Infantry combat is almost non-existant, except for primarily 1-2 maps (Basrah Streets or the one Docks map). Basrah is perhaps the best map that USI has to offer, but it is rarely played, and features no armor (and intertwining urban nightmare). The game is primarily composed of long open fields or intertwining desert terrain where you engage opposing armor, an occasional A-10 Warthog bomber, and a few Hinds/Apaches here and there.

IMO, this is what ruins the mod from becoming the ultimate battlefield mod. Since it's based around vehicles, little priorities were placed on infantry combat. Only one new weapon is introduced, a rifle variant for Spec Ops on the USA team. Everything else is practically the same weapon with very loud sounds, increased recoil, yet the weapons do practically identical damage. This causes problems. No longer will a sprayed 30 round clip kill somebody. Sometimes it can bring them to critical health, and you'll easily get mowed down. Spawn camping is somewhat reduced in the game though, thanks to exclusive map designs, and long barb-wire fencing around non-cappable bases.

In terms of classes, everything is the same. The original weapons are still there, and some of the weapons are dubbed down. Snipers SUCK horribly. You cannot hit targets more than 60 meters due to a partial recoil glitch. The RPG-7 has an off-centered skin glitch which is going to be patched in the next udpate (it fires slightly left). Many of your teammates will hover around the home base waiting for the A-10, often ignoring objectives.

For a 0.1 beta, this mod was great. It has new additions on the vehicle side, lacks on the infantry portion, but makes up for it by breaking the boundaries of typical BF maps (up to 12 tanks on one map, and so forth). Unfortunately, if you're looking for the ultimate balanced battlefield, this game is not it. Everyone plays Engineer or Anti-Tank, as there is no single reason to play any other class. There is so much armor you need some sort of defense against it. About half/half of the maps feature really cool effects, or great designs. The other half are practically open fields where large cluster groupings of tanks becomes more of a strategical whore-fest between engineers repairing each other. Either way, I had fun with the mod, and you will too.

Be warned though that mod almost REQUIRES you to hop into a vehicle if you want to end up with a positive score. I would rate it a [7/10], and would like to thank the USI staff for creating a great mod. With OPK & USI down, now it's time to try PRMM.

                Re: US Intervention v0.1 Released

                To the mini review above...

Forgot the weapon additions of Stinger and grail (aa) for the engineers and non guided SRAW and RPG are also new weapons.

As far as infantry combat goes - infantry combat fits infantry maps!

A n opinion that pops up time and time again is theat BF series is all about infantry combat - guess what? No its not! The BF niche is vehiculer combat and how well it handles the scalability on large maps. You want to play infantry combat there are plenty other games out there which are primarilly infantry focused and do that job better than the BF2 engine.

Not negating infantry combat altogether, as it is fun in BF2 - but the battlefield in my humble is about the battlefield and a bit of infantry specific maps in the fray, with lower vehicle counts for a wee change now and again.

A question for ya. Did you play Road of Destruction? I seen excellent focused infantry combat on that map, and spent most of the games i played on that as spec ops, laying little traps and shooting it out with the opposition infantry.

The 16 player varients of a few of the maps are very infantry focused as well, and of course Basrah streets which in my humble is a splendid infantry map, with no bastard armour to ruin yer day - though was also puzzled by the **** sniper rifles - but Wolfi has already explained that it was a wee hiccup that slipped in and will be fixed.

All in all, ya done not a bad review mate, but really perhaps you should have played it a bit longer before writing it :P

Like your honesty, I keep getting messages from other devs to read these mini reviews like your so we are listening to almost all of them, but we do have more then 1 new weapon. All of the mounted guns are all new along with enginer classes having a stinger and grail in there kits. RPG is another new one not anything ported, US I believe got the LAW, iraq has a new pistol and I don't know if the new grenade made it into this build. I am so far behind in homework catch that I haven't had much time to play the final build with everyone.

also if you have a server running USI keep'em coming. I'll see if I can get it posted in the weekly update next week. Just post it here or PM it to me. I'll see what I can do.

                    Re: US Intervention v0.1 Released

Well overall I'm a bit underwhelmed, here's why:

-The weapon accuracy is about on par with BF2 (I was expecting weapons to be more accurate)
-The iraqi civilian vehicles are far too oversensitive and prone to rolling over
-The tank rounds have virtually no loss of trajectory which is ridiculous
-The lighting in the maps leave a lot to be desired
-Spawn points in the middle of nowhere on some maps and the maps themselves were fairly..bland.
-Another disappointment was that the stamina drain rate wasn't changed, I had high hopes you guys would change it up a bit and decrease the rate of stamina loss so we could run/jump a bit more. Also was hoping default walking speed would be a bit faster.
-Lastly, my framerate was all over the place even when there was no heavy action going on. Just for reference, I have an X2 4400+@2.6 GHz, 2 gb ram and an ATi X1900XTX@720/820 mhz so there shouldn't have been fps issues. Not a bad start but you guys still have a long way to go.

P.S. on a more positive note, my friend who is an avid jet lover from Desert Combat loves the jets and missile targeting in this mod.

                      Re: US Intervention v0.1 Released

i see lots of USI guys are reading this .. that's great
                      i got few questions

i haven't played MP yet.. i just ran the local mod and tried out a-10 and stuff

anyway.. is PB enabled in MP so people can't hack? (i know it's not ranked but still)
second, i noticed that a-10 is FREAKING HUGE.. is it suppose to be like that?
third and most importantly, the difference between the graphic option(low, med, high) is TOO DRASTIC

if you run game with low texture and all, game looks ABSOLUTELY CRAP
according to SS and stuff, all the skins and textures are great but try playing it on low setting.. the difference is too big (bf2 too but it's better in bf2)

it's just 0.1 and game is awesome..

                      great work guys

You need to download Winrar to open the archive. Once you extract the files out of the archive to a temp folder, somewhere inside will be a .exe file to start the USI installation.

                            Re: US Intervention v0.1 Released

IMHO I think that this mod is the best mod when it comes to vehicular combat, but as previously posted the overall feel and handling of the firearms precludes this mod from achieving its true potential.

Now, I know that this is no reality mod, however, reducing the amount of bullets (or rounds) that it takes to kill an enemy, increasing the weapons' accuracy, and adding selective fire, like 3-round bursts (to the MP5 for example) should render this mod one of the best (if not the best ) BF2 modification.

Other than that, I believe that you guys have shown an exellent and very professional work that surpasses (by far) that of EA/DICE and/or other mods. Honestly, all you need to do is improve the handheld weapons and this mod will be *the way* that Battlefield 2 was meant to be!

                            Keep up the exellent work!

Yeh, the 16 player version of Eastings is an excellent infantry map, some servers should be running this with 32 people on. If you want infantry, then run that, ROD and Streets, all you CSS people should then be happy.. :P
