Re: Community Update from EAUK (Squad Hopping)

What I don’t understand is, with all the stuff that needs to be fixed in this game (red tag, AT missiles going thru vehicles, indestructible planes (for me the worst part on this game), game crashing to desktop, etc....) they focus in the most insignificant thing that actually no one care, unless they’re getting own by it (that are the ones that complain in the first place), its a feature that has become part of the status quo in BF2.

I think that fixing, removing, nerfing this feature is a waste of time and money when there are more important problems to solve.

Well, we'll have to learn to live with this, and wait for the 1.31 were they’ll probably change it back

EA/Dice, instead of balancing a game by taking people from squads, how about taking the lone wolves? Man, it is so frustrating to finally find a good, communicative squad and then get forced to the other team. This problem is a lot worse than the so-called squad hopping problem.

Until EA/DICE realizes this, the arty feature will continue to work against teamplay in BF2.
I disagree with everything in this post. I play commander all the time...I don't need to worry about finding cohesive squads to drop arty on...the average lone-wolf players all do pretty much the same thing (like lemmings). On the average pub server Karkand map, if MEC, the CO can simply drop strike after strike between the US spawn on the right side and the courtyard. Eventually they can move up to the Square spawn and do the same thing. By contrast, a good teamwork squad would be going up the left side of the map or the right side, bypassing the Hotel and Square going for the back bases. A good squad would know not to travel in a straight line at a constant speed. A good squad would know not to move in a tight group. The only single dots you'll see out there are opposing COs, snipers or spec forces guys trying to blow your CO assets.

Arty doesn't work against teamplay. People's pursuit of high K/D ratios and "bling" is what most inhibits teamplay.

What would make you think it would take someone months to figure this out?

I join a round of Sharqi as MEC. I pull up the squad screen and see the S/L for Squad 3 is behind the TV Station with three other squad mates about to assault. I see S/L for Squad 1 at the MEC chopper spawn...I see the S/L for Squad 2 at the City Entrance. I can be a lone wolf or I can create my own squad and spawn at one of the uncappables. What am I gonna do? I'm going to spawn in on Squad 3. No rocket science there.

With the change, I'll have to spawn in at one of the uncappables or at any other base we have prior to joining any of the existing squads.

The big impact this is going to have is that the quick spawner Squad Leader will no longer be able to jump in a vehicle, haul ass to an enemy CP and expect that other team mates will join his squad and spawn in the vehicle while in route. I've played many rounds of Karkand where the Train Accident, Square or Suburb is capped by the USMC before the MEC even spawn in. Maps like Karkand, Wake Island, Dalian Plant, Kubra Dam and Sharqi will all be easier for the defending forces and much tougher for the attackers.

Huh? For the 1,000,000th time, Commanders do NOT get points for arty kills...PERIOD. Commanders points are the total number of points earned by his/her team divided by the number of "live" team members. This number is calculated continously and accumulated throughout the round.

That's why there should be at least one Medic, preferably two in the Squad...to keep the SL and the rest of the squad alive. That's also why the SLshould NOT be the point man.

Removing Squad Hopping is going to be good for the game in general. More team play, less people running everywhere and changing their goal everytime they died.

It was a lame exploit that shouldn't have been in the game (hopping and chaining) from the begining, players don't have the patients to hold back if they're the squad leader, got to rush that flag too. Hoppers always ****ed me off, stop thinking about your damn score and play the game.

BF2142 implements spawn generators that squad leaders can deploy, allowing them to join in the fights. I’m going to have a lot of fun camping spawn generators in that game.

oh yeah, like camping those are any less "lame" than squad hopping. i think you just hate it because you don't understand the plusses. either that or you just like ****ing respectable people off with your ignorance.

what's funny is that the petition for keeping squad switching the way it has been is still growing. it's up to 9430. i wonder how many will sign it before the patch comes out.

Wow. This is going to make it tough for those maps where one side has one base starting out and the otherside has the rest. Take Wake Island for example. The US will have a heck of a time getting enough people to any point to do anything.

Yup, Wake is gonna be interesting for the US team post v1.3 for pub servers.

I signed it, I read a post on another forum and I agree with leaving it the way it is in the game now, save the rule change for BF2142. I don't think it'll make any difference though, nor do I think it'll mean a drop in number of players, people will still join squads, some will play as a team and some will just use it for another remote spawn to pick from. Will it enforce more teamplay, I doubt it.

that is precisely how i feel about it, but like you said, "I don't think it'll make any difference though." nor do i.

I think this is the major reason behind the sqad jumping adjustment.

If you coordinate it well and have just one guy over on the island at Karkand and:

                              1. He creates a squad
                              2. He invites 5 dead guys to his squad
                              3. The 5 dead guys immediately spawn on him, then leave the squad
                              4. They create 5 more squads
                              5. You now have 6 mobile spawn points in a matter of seconds.
                              6. Those 6 squads now get a few more joiners and, voila, you have an army growing in your rear.

i have rarely seen this in average pub play. i saw it more often when competing in CAL, but thats not to say it doesnt happen.
