Yay; I have the PLA medal, now I can go back to team stacking on the USMC side

Meaningless medals intended to garner interest in AF

Hmm, I thought I'd get a bunch of medals now but not quite. However, I'll be much closer than before :)

I believe it is now 100 hours as US and at least 100 points best round score.

I received a Navy Cross last night with those criteria.

Seriously...the time it takes to get a ribbon/badge/medal doesn't have any effect on how well you shoot a SAW or fly a helo. It only shows how much time to spend playing, not really how good you are at it. There are a few that take some skill but I haven't spent rounds and rounds of playing trying to get a certain ribbon/badge/medal and I'm happy with what I have. If it makes you that ticked off go play CS.

Im sorry what I dont get is you people that put down us players that have obtained or was soon going to obtain these medals through regular play...

Seriously.. if it doesnt matter to you people also.. then why the Sigs showing your nice shiny medals on these forums alone.. I have more than you and even I dont post them.. they are just seen by me or some one nosy enough to want to look.. I dont put them in a glass case and show them off and I dont put them in a Sig nor take them to job interviews.. I own my business so I dont resume shop anyway..

As far as "regular" players as you complainers put it.. you act as though most of us with the medals and ribbons that you "think" are so un-obtainable are whormongers and stat padders... lol I am lucky If most days after a day of work that I play on avg 2 hours which takes no time at all considering the length of some maps..

It doesnt take much to get these in game rewards and thats what we look at them as.. In GAME rewards.. its fun.. have you ever played a simple little coin op game at an arcade.. ever get a high score and enter your name on the screen.. come on I know you have... oh thats right.. these days you all sit at home and play on your Xbox or Slaystation and look up cheats on the net to be better than the next guy..

My son plays Xbox I see and hear how you all play the games.. its an aggressive competition at times.. especially with the language..

Get over yourselves.. we like our medals as it shows achievement as anything else in life does.. Is it money? No does it pay my bills? no It's mere entertainment and more of something to show effort that was applied towards gaining more experience than other players.. so in a way it is a status thing.. not much more and the enjoyment knowing you were able to pull it off.

Next time Gramdma hands you a cookie just say no thanks, I feel good about myself and I dont need no stinking cookie to know how much you love me Grandma, LOL

All kidding aside, 1.3 doesn't look promising for me in regards to fixing and tweaking some of the bugs/glitches, and the fact that I don't pay attention to medals and score, this patch seems pointless to me.

Oh well, as previously mentioned, I don't think the ranking system ever did the community any good.

Well, I'll download it and hope that there aren't going to be any "hot fixes" once everyone downloads and plays on 1.3.

            PEACE

They reduce things WAY TOO MUCH for the crap players.
I would have to disagree with you there. Not all of us have 5+ hours a day that we can dedicate to this game. Alot of us have jobs during the day and also families. Its nice to be able to achieve certain award status a bit sooner than 250 freaking hours. Thats over 10 days worth of game play!

Also, in the ranking system they already have a huge gap also. From roughly 21,000 to 50,000 is a big gap IMO. I played this game since day 1 and I play on weekends mostly or maybe an hour at night here and there. It was nice at first going up in rank, it gave me some intrest in the game and gave me something to strive for. Now at my rate I will have to play almost a full year to even advance to Sergeant Major. So now the ranking system doesn't even appeal to me. Why pound on a game for almost a year at my rate only to be awarded something miniscule?

I think they should have ranks like every 10-12 thousand points. However, on the other hand I do see a tiny bit where you come from as well. You don't want to make it easy and you want the ranks to mean something. As far as a marketing strategy goes, they EA are failing miserably trying to keep us full time working people hooked on the game. Sure the game play is fun, but the ranking system helped drive me to play more. Now, it just seems too far away to even bother.

They need to learn from Blizzard entertainment when it comes to hooking people on the game. World of Warcraft really gets you hooked. Why? Because they give you tons and tons of awards for playing, and the ranking system is easily doable.

              Just my 2 cents!

Re: EA Community Update - 5/3/06

Well I see why this has been done & I can read here that a lot 'The majority' will be happy with it being done. Personally, I feel a bit cheated by EA who made me waste my time, lots of it too. Needless to say I will bear your backtracking in mind with any future EA products.

ie; It was 250 hours per class for 'expert' on the original install. Then u made it a cheap 100. Now you do this to please the masses (who are no doubt also grafting hard). But it's no longer that much of an achievement & only serves to kill off a great gameplaying audience earlier than it should. I'm not saying the change in time was wrong. Just inconsistent in that a lot of players wasted a lot of time in the initial class timings.

Pretty soon servers won't be as full because people will gain those medals, ribbons, badges earlier because that's how it's been marketed. This, of course, is designed for them to buy 2142 & move swiftly with EA's intentions.

I've enjoyed working on those badges to be honest. I like the game a lot too. But please don't waste my/our time again! Don't change the goalposts like that. It really does suck & it cheapens the awards. Try to get it right the first time around & maintain it throughout.

It's definately a 'quick fix solution' which won't be easily forgotten by over a million BF2 players. Whether they agree with it or not, it's just shows how inconsistent EA can be & how much time can be wasted playing their games to the original design & specifications.

Readers.. Please don't reply to my post whining about how much time I personally play & how much time some personally don't play etc.. My point is this:- Play as much or as little as u like. That's down to individual choice. But suffering such frequent massive changes from EA as a gaming community is really a little unprofessional to say the least.

However, on a solution based note... Why don't u give a 'Bar' or 'Oakleaf' in addition to the medals won when u win the same medal time & time again?

PS. & Don't be looking at my badges either. Next week you'll all have them anyway :P.

Don't expect on Friday. They have never released a patch on a Friday.

I think they have changed the hour requirements without the patch....I have 130 hours for USMC and just got the Navy Cross

Looks like the WCR might be changed as well from what the moderator at www.bf2player.com mention: http://www.bf2player.com/forum/viewt...t=967&start=15

These changes are very much welcomed! I have already started to reap the benefits. The other day when I finished playing on a ranked server I went to the BFHQ and noticed that I had been awarded the Navy Cross and Golden Scimitar for 100 hours played as USMC and MEC. I thought it was a glitch at first and that I was looking at someone else's stats. LOL!
