Re: EA Community Update - 5/1/06

I'd rather pay for one full expansion, that way it has more live. Three maps that can't be become part of the line up because not everyone will get the booster really sucks. I havn't played EuroForces since the week it came out cause half my clan won't get it and they won't put 'em into rotation 'cause a majority of the community doesn't have it. With Special Forceses, its different 'cause its got a following and enough maps that you can deticate a server to it.

Well I'm looking forward to a week of flying the A10 Thunderbolt. Who knows maybe now with 6 booster maps maybe there will be more populated booster map servers. In the expansion there are only about 3 or so maps that everyone always plays, when you only come out with three maps and only one gets played, well what do you expect...

PS Really fun when your playing a full rotation and it switches to a Euro map and it goes from 24 players to 3 more players needed, really sad.

The EA site is down. Hopefully they are prepping for 1.3 which would make AF releasable sometime soon.

I think it was an update to the EA Downloader software, that's all. I couldn't login to Downloader either, but when I did it updated itself.

No sign of 1.3 or AF though. My bet is middle or late May.

I have got to see them in action up close and am very glad Im on thier team. I worked the flight line at Red Flag and saw just about every thing that there is. So....I know big woop.
I only hope that the A-10s in game will be close to the real one in performance. It would be a big let down if it flew like an F-15 or something.
I guess Im looking foward to giving EA my ten dollars too, sigh. . . . . . . .Red
I thought that too and I remember watching the Military channel and they had that documentary on the A-10 but I dont remember seeing big flames.

Check out the Wiki on the A-10, there was even a prototype two seater night fighter version.

and if you wanna learn a little more about the Turbofan engines in the Warthog check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turbofan

Judging by this night shot of the A-10 also it does not look like there are any flames

As an aviation fan I am permanantly mystified as to how an ugly, poor handling, slow, unmanouverable, role-undynamic, short range, archaic ground attack bomber gets so much love. It doesnt make sense. The a10 sucks ass in a very real way - where did this mythos come from is what I want to know...

I get to see these all the time near where I live.. we have even gone on the lookout spot on the side of Centre Hall Mountain to look across at them because they always seem to be in pairs and flying really low.

Its cool to look out and see these things go flying past and you can actually see the pilot through the canopy when they do.

The ones we see are green and have little camoflouge but none the less the sound from them is awesome being that close and all.

Not sure who it is, but were guessing its from either local reserve units or maybe even the Fort Mead MD since its not far from us when we are located in central PA.

One of these days I will get a picture

Man, it may suck ass as far as modern fighters go, but this thing is DEADLY in it's intended roll - ground attack. At one point the AF was gonna retire them and the Army said "NO".

It's a CAS aircraft, and it does its job perfectly. It's a flying tank.

You need a breed of aircraft capable of surviving World War III in central Germany blasting fleets of Soviet Tanks, they need to take damage, maybe lose a engine, wing and whatnot but still get that pilot home. They need to be extremely robust, powerful in manuvering and slow. Something alien to fast burning sexy fighterjets. YOu also need a one hell of a gun and a awesome weapons loadout for Combat Air Support.

Those A-10's were worn out when 1990 came around and destined to go to a large desert holding facility to slowly rot in the hot sun. Saddam invaded Kuwait soon after and we regenerated the A-10's with a SLEP overhaul of critical frame areas designed to make it last 10 years or more.

When this plane went into service, it was feared by the warsaw pact who called it the "Devil's Cross" due to a vague reference to the Russian Cross. The last thing tankers will see is that A-10 popping up over the trees with it's minigun blazing as the tanks died. We simply call it the War Hog. With gauges that are from steamship days and hardly any of the fancy whiz-bang toys that "Big jets" take with them. That Hawg gets the job done.

What those A-10's brought back after TWO Gulf Wars is the undying indomitable spirit of "Can do" no matter what damage or threat is on the battlefield. They have been chopped up by enemy fire to the point of being scrapped but still saved lives by getting the pilots home safe.

That is what is all counts, keeping the very expensive and fragile pilots alive as they pack, ship and deliver death and destruction to our enemies.

The USAF can keep the F-22's, -16's and what not, I like it down here under bridges and below trees tank plinking with the A-10.

You nailed it, and Endless954 is right about the Army.

The USAF wanted to retire it, and the Army told them, "If you retire it, we'll buy it, train our people to fly it, and keep it in service." The Air Force didn't want to have the Army on their turf (combat jets), so they overhauled it and kept it. Whenever they talk of scrapping it, the GIs all get in a huff and demand that it stay.

As a friend said, "I saw one go in Panama, and it made me a true believer."

It is not a fighter. It is, as others have said, a Close Air Support jet, and a damn good one at that, one which they cannot find suitable replacement for.
