i am all for weathering - i feel in the right situation it adds alot of realism to vehicles. but let me ask you - how long, exactly, do you think the first gulf war was? and out of tht period of time, how long the A10's actually saw service in tht theatre?

weathering is an art - but you have to tie it in with the real world - there is no sense having mud splatter and grass stains on a vehicle tht serves in desert sand, just as there is no sense beating up an aircraft tht spent more time getting to the campaign than actually participating in it.

The A-10's that went to the gulf weren't exactly brand new. The last A-10 produced rolled out of the factory in 1984 and over the years aircrafts tend to get these mud spots and discolorations that won't go away no matter how much you clean them. So there is indeed reason to add weathering, dirt etc even though the war did not last very long.

an aircraft getting a mudspot? surface scorching yes, water staining yes, bleaching yes - mud spot no [only on ends of undercarriage if anything]

Just so you guys know, Military planes that i know, probably civilans too, go to what's call a DEPO overhauld, and the jet gets taken apart to the last washer and rebuild back up, like it was brand new. Infact a jet out of DEPO is just as new so yeah, maybe this one just came from rework

haha no i dont - your missing my point - aircraft dont touch mud. in older confrontations yes (grass airfields) but not really in todays conflicts (especially in middle east) . What you are probably thinking of is water staining if anything... not mud.

even if an aircraft did get mud on it, it wouldnt be flying until it was gone - it is very important that all airsurfaces are clean as any disruption to the airflow around an aircraft can cause handling probs.

If anything i think this skin here could use some more surface variation. but hey - i didnt do this one, and at any rate i think at this stage release is more important than anything...

Jimbob, you're a nut. Who cares if its mud or dirt or whatever, English is not my first language so i use the words i know. And no i wasnt talking about whether mud sticks to airplanes or not. If mud really is that important to you maybe you should go talk with someone who cares? No offence.

Although we appreciate the passion on the MUD concept from both sides of the fence, the point here is that the DEV team and our community members are happy with it.

MUD concept? Just cus i said mud does that mean im on some side of a fence?? Im not the one noting every little error in one's post to try and start a discussion about mud.. lol

The A-10 i never said it was something wrong with it, but what PBA gave you was just some friendly crit, you know like you do in our threads all the time, and thats absolutely fine as long as we can give you some crits back aswell.

If mud really is that important to you maybe you should go talk with someone who cares? No offence.

then why did you bring it up? its clear from others that have weighed into this debate that aircraft are indeed routinely overhauled so from the onset your argument was flawed. That and if you cant find a better word than mud to describe what you are trying to describe then perhaps you shouldnt be commenting on weathering techniques in texture art.
