Some Mistakes Infinity Ward Should Regret

What a difference a month makes. In only a few short weeks, the outlook towards Modern Warfare 2 has been turned upside down. We were all eagerly waiting for an announcement regarding the PC release date, hoping it would be the same as that of the consoles. We had survived the storm which was the price hike and were ready to pay whatever we had to to get our hands on this gem. Next thing we know, Fourzerotwo slipped up on a podcast and everything went downhill. Here is what we feel represent Infinity Ward's five biggest mistakes in the weeks before Modern Warfare 2's launch.

    <a href="http://images.totalgamingnetwork.com/images/111009codmw2.1257805392.jpg"><img src="http://images.totalgamingnetwork.com/images/thumb_111009codmw2.1257805392.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>

    It's Not Balanced For That

Improved visuals, faster processors, and a multitude of keys are only a few aspects which differentiate the PC from a console. With extra keys, extra features can easily be added to the game. Such was the case with the "lean" feature found on PC versions of Call of Duty games. Being able to look around a corner without fully exposing your body was a tremendous advantage to those who knew what they were doing. Unfortunately, it has been announced that this feature will not be used in the latest installment on the PC. Why? The game "was not balanced for lean." Obviously this only goes to show that the PC version is a mere console port.

In what seemed like a matter of seconds following this announcement, the "Tactical Nuke" was leaked for the multiplayer portion of the game. By achieving a kill streak of 25, players are now able to call in a nuclear bomb and win the match for their team. This brought up the question: How can it not be balanced for lean but a nuke fits right in? A question yet to be answered.

This Game Is Going To Be Awesome, Just Trust Us

The hype machine which has slowly been gaining momentum on the gaming community seems to have been going in full force at the Infinity Ward offices for quite some time now. Despite the anger caused in the PC community, the folks at IW have been nothing but arrogant in the past few weeks. Here is what was said when asked if the PC version was a direct port from the consoles "No, PC has custom stuff like mouse control, text chat in game, and graphics settings." This was viewed as a slap to the face and did nothing to help re-build everyone's vision of the developer.

    We're Not That Dedicated

If you are reading this, chances are you already know what is the most obvious problem with Modern Warfare 2 - the multiplayer component. With the original Modern Warfare, gamers have enjoyed two years of arguably the best FPS gaming ever released. On top of the solid multiplayer experience and the expertly crafted singleplayer story was the additional content being sent in from the community. Creative minds could work together to make the game into what they felt it should be and were given the opportunity to share it with the masses. For some reason, Infinity Ward feels they can top their last outing by removing the dedicated servers, eliminating the chance of these mods to be played all over the internet. The lack of dedicated servers will also remove server admins from the picture and force all matches to be played from a host computer, not a host server.

The announcement of the new system alone sparked the community, with over 150,000 pre-orders cancelled in a matter of weeks. It is easy to see exactly how passionate the PC community feels over the issue. If Infinity Ward doesn't get the message by the time Modern Warfare 3 rolls around, not much hope will remain for any PC support.

    <a href="http://images.totalgamingnetwork.com/images/modernwarfare2-screenshot2-1024x768.jpg"><img src="http://images.totalgamingnetwork.com/images/thumb_modernwarfare2-screenshot2-1024x768.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>

    Thanks For Your Pre-Orders

All of the points previously mentioned all share one common trait - they've each been announced within the past month. Had we been informed of the changes to the PC version a few months ago, the community would have had the chance to vocalize their concerns and shown the developers' faults while there was still time to correct them. Now it's too late. By the time the multiplayer issues were announced, we were less than a month from launch. Nothing could be done, we just had to painfully endure one badly timed announcement after the other. Could Infinity Ward not have told us what they already knew months ago? It's hard to see why not.

Do you agree with our points? Do you feel we missed anything important? Be sure to let us know.

Infinity Ward is a very ignorant and arrogant company.

"No, PC has custom stuff like mouse control, text chat in game, and graphics settings."

Those are standards for PC games. What's the difference between MW2 PC and MW2 consoles?

They didn't... not enough buttons on a controller.

I completely agree on all points and if there's something I dislike more than others is how IW seems to have become 360 fanboys, with PC and PS3 users getting the shaft. But at least the PS3 version is working as it always has.

Not buying even if they add back dedicated servers and scrap the whole IW.net thing. They're too dumb to deserve my money.

Without any of the changes and just a few additions to what COD4 had to offer the game would be, bought by many PC fans just because of the hype. Now it will defiantly have less sales since the developer has completely ignored and undermined their hardcore fans.

After seeing what's in the actual game the problems run much deeper than not having dedicated servers.

I'm not that impressed with the maps chosen for multiplayer, the game mechanics seem to be geared for pure arcade - the only thing missing is the Unreal Tournament announcer voice calling out "Mooooooonster Kill!!!!!"

I had no idea that PC will not have leaning, WTFITA! That's a deal killer for me. This game will end up to be just like "Rainbow Six Vegas 2" - I can't believe IW is going down this path. Pure GREEDY BAZTARDS.

I replayed COD4:MW single player over the weekend, It will keep me busy until BFBC2 is released.

You left out the terrorist angle too. Its important because it is a total gimmick yet a departure from being the "hero" like in the past. Gimmicks also were the low point in the MW1 game IMO such as the nuke and the ending.

                      ^^
Left out as I didn't spoil that scene on myself yet haha. I did want to include it, but also wanted the shock value of it when I play the mission

Even with the higher price this game will be sold very well. A good sign for all the other developers and publishers out there, you can do with us what you want, we'll buy it anyway.

It's just sad many pc gamers will buy it anyway.

After playing the first few mission of single player i really like the game.
has the traditional story (if you play the first few mission you will know what i mean). I like it, the guns are the graphics are and the single player maps are great aswell, i am yet to play multi-player but this is my stance so far.

As many said, "Pride cometh before the fall" and look what we have here...

Not a complete fail since they'll still do fine on consoles, but this is going to go down as one of the biggest fails in PC history, right along with MoH:Airborne...oh, and why did that game fail...wait, let me think, it's almost coming to me, oh yeah...NO DEDICATED SERVERS EITHER!?!?! And MW2 has thrown in these other crappy problems on top of that. Looks like they're trying to beat MoH:Airborne in the fail category.
