LAV shooting someone laying down on top of a tall building

I was on Karkand as MEC. These two guys were just raping us in LAVs. It seemed most of my team was medic or supply. After my 200th death I spawned as AT and climbed on a tall building to take shots at the LAVs. The rapers were good. They had great eyesight and aim so being on the ground with them was more dangerous. I get on top of the building, fire a shot, then back off and go prone as I reload. I thought I was completely out of sight given I'm prone on top of a 4-5 story building and I could not see the APC, but I guess according the the physics in BF2 I was not out of range because the guy shot me two times and I was dead.

I ask you if that sounds right. To me it was absurd. Stand next to a 4-5 story building and tell me you could shoot someone laying on their stomach. It just would not happen. If I can't see him how can I get shot? It's crap like that that can ruin a round of gaming.

It happens to me to. I never understood it. But I can totally feel your pain. Maybe one of the more experienced guys here can offer an explanation (splash damage?). I dunno.

My guess is it has to do with lag and on his screen you where still standing up but im not so sure. Just my .2 cents but i could be wrong. This also happens to me alot.

If you were lying close to a surface that he could fire upon then the splash damage can kill you...

He was hitting the top of the roof so I guess the lame "splash" from that is what got me. Totally LAME! I should never die! haha

It really was adding insult to injury since the guy that did had raped me in his LAV about 200 times.

yes, this is often due to lag and framerate issues

it happens to me all the time, and it almost seems as the bullets are turing corners

but i know its my PC and they arent cheating

I believe APC rounds can penetrate through the corners of buildings. I know for certain that the mi-28 can do this and have been killed by slimy apcs in the same fashion. I'm pretty sure that's what causing these deaths. Also, whenever I'm in an APC and a hidden AT guy hits me, I'll start spamming common hiding spots. I've seen lots of APC whores do this so that could be your problem as well.

if you didnt switch to AT class and own him, im afraid to say you deserve it.

i dont like the APC/ tank whoring in karkand, but hey, be AT, lay mines, or play mashtuur instead, dont whine. or get an apc yourself....

LAVs have high turret movement capabilities so that they can do that, tanks dont. well actually in real life tanks do, but not in BF2.

Splash damage, plain and simple. Ive done it many times using satilite dishes, cylinder shaped storage containers, A/C units, what ever. That also explain why it took two shots.
Next time try and work with another AT guy on the ground. By the time he kills the guy on the ground you should have killed him. I have noticed lately that the armor seems to stay in a group and about the only thing that can do much is AT mines. When they are grouped together the guy on the ground hasnt got a chance without armor support of his own. . . . . . .Red

not splash damage. when your close to the edge even if you cant see off, your body hangs like halfway off and is easy to hit. lokk at a battlerecorder or something.
