    how do you change files to ones where you can view videos one i downloaded trys opining in notepad

    RAR files are packed files like ZIP files, just using another format.

    7-Zip or WinRAR can extract the file so you can view it.

    7-Zip is free, WinRAR is not. http://www.7-zip.org/

      yea i got winRAR but in it i click what i downloaded and its still appearing in notpad

        Well is the file a .rar file, or other format WinRAR can open/extract?

        Have you tried setting the associated extensions, like .rar .zip to WinRAR ? This can be done from within WinRAR options.

          all of them are checked and its an avi file

            Well then the problem isn't WinRAR but you choise of media player.

            Try opening Windows Media Player and open the file with it.

            Alternatively, use Media Player Classic or VLC: http://www.free-codecs.com
