The helicopters were specifically designed with morons in mind. They have various fail-safes built into them to essentially make crashing in them almost difficult to do. The "floating" sensation is a result of the helicopters being made super-easy so even the extremely below average player can fly them with no problem and not drop out of the sky if they let off the throttle for more than 30 seconds.

yeah but most of the noobs that crash don't do it landing :laugh:
I remember when I first hopped in one and somehow wound up almost inverted shortly after take off and that was that.
I want a faster descend rate. or at least as fast as the fatties.

Yeah, if you leave the controls alone with the helicopter somewhere near a level state, they'll most often level themselves off and sit there and very slowly make their way toward the ground. The Blackhawk practically hovers itself in this way. Of course, leave it at a sharp angle, and it doesn't have enough time to correct and it finds the ground in a hurry.
As far as the descent rate, I agree it would be a nice addition, but I don't expect it to be fixed anytime soon. Best way to descend right now is tilt the nose forward, then it drops like a rock, but of course moves forward too. I think 12 degrees or something like that is when it starts to drop like a rock.
Ever thought about the fact that AH-12 weighs 6600 lb whereas blackhawk weighs around 16,000lb? Thats almost 2.5 times heavier. There, that's why it lands faster than AH-12.

yes i did think about that. but, which one will reach 300m faster?
I find the best way to land an attack helo is to evaluate your surroundings and insure you have adequate space, spin on your "nose's" axis downwards until you're about 3-5 feet off the ground and then level it off as you would with a transport chopper.
That, or come in on a nose dive (with MI-8 and Cobra; definitely not the EuroTiger) and slowly "slide" it into position. I rarely land though, I hover over whichever location I want to land on.
Nose down and rotate you will descend faster but not too much, else well.... you know.
I never had a problem with going up or down, ascension is the same way spiril while throttling up and give the Heli a slight angle and you will ascend faster.
I mean the whole rotar thing is pushing air down to keep it aloft so giving it a slight pitch downwards or upwards will make it do those just faster.

With wind resistance, they still hit at almost the same time. The marble has less wind resistance while the bowling ball's weight compensates for the increased wind resistance. Weight has NO bearing on rate of descent.
Fact is, the Blackhawk would descend more slowly due to the increased surface area of the bottom of the body.

That's a good point. Here's what I do on sharqi...
If you are the USMC and need to repair but don't feel like being attacked by AA, gently run behind the building and slowly move towards the helipad's edge on the roof. You don't actualyl need to land to have it repaired/refueled.
If you are on MEC, your best bet is to fly as fast as you can from a higher angle to a lower angle by the helipad, almost as if you're going to crash. Once you're at about 10 feet abover ground with about 20feet from the pad, slow down your throttle to "hover speed" and creep to pad.
It takes practice to ameliorate your landing/hovering skills (I've been learning since DC and BF Vietnam) but once you get the grasp of it, as you are demonstrating with Sharqi in single player, then you will only get better.

As a soldier and former paratrooper, trajectory and rate of descent are interests of mine.
(Not hobbies, hobbies cost money. Interests are free.)
