    he indicated he was able to connect starting a lan server

    if your pc cannot connect to a game he starts, did you try starting a game and seeing if he can connect? or vice versa?

      I suggest you try it. Hamachi is a fine tool. I played people from UK on LAN with this tool.

        Ah. Ok. The techie support guy in mean just wanted to make sure the basics were already there. Be glad I didn't ask "Is the cable with the phone jack looking end pluged in?". :p

              Ryan, this is the only point where the method I've used differs.

              I've never clicked on "Join Local". I just click on the Multiplayer tab, stop the update of servers and then click 'Connect to IP' and use the 192.168.0.X address for the other computer.

              Perhaps try your method but without clicking on "Join Local" and instead entering the other computer's IP from the Multiplayer list.

                    Yeah, I understand that the first thing you want to do after you finishing screwing with the game for hours is to just play the damn game. But I always appreciate it when people take the time to come back later and post definitively it was fixed and how. Sometimes I feel like I am just talking out loud to no one when I do that but one never knows who is going to come along later with the same problem.
