jet steer and roll with joystick

what should I set steer and roll with joystick?
steer for twist and roll for tilt?
or other way around?
I've been using key/mouse and just got a joystick today.
thought it's going to be much easier but i'm having hell of time controlling the plane... hard to keep it stright leveled

twist for rudder

side pulling for banking

push pulling for pitch

Steer to twist.
Roll to side/side tilt.
Pitch to forward/back tilt.

That way your joystick motion directly mimics your orientation.
