for some reason it feels like the accuracy of the rifle has dropped since the latest patch. a few times i have had the crosshairs on the guys head and i didnt even hit him.
been having the same problem. Not sure what's up. I don't remember that being changed in the changelog. In 1.21 i was headshotting everything including birds and stuff. Now I can't hit a guy standing still, standing next to me.
in real war, snipers are something that can hold up columns and a large force for hours on end b4 found and dealt with. it is obviously impossible for this in bf2. i can keep the left side of hotel completely clear in karkand, but only if i have atleast one more sniper with me. claymores even as a sniper i am glad that we can only drop 2 at a time, and if we drop more, they dissapear. i hate claymores and they r used too much by noobs because of the fact they dont tk anymore. i still use sniper as assault, if im by myself i try to stay low and move on the flanks trying not to be seen, when im with a larger force i stay a little behind them to provide support. so i dont think snipers are completely useless, just the ppl who try to use the class are completely useless and should pick up an f2000
All i do with sniper, even though i use it alot, i run around with medic/spec ops then if im in a situation where we cannot take a base, or defending from range, i die(taking people out with me) then spawn as sniper, help from range, then after start as medic/spec ops again. Then repeat. But relating to the question, "Has Sniper Class declined since 1.21 Patch?" Yes it has as the "woot woot- new gun" effect goes, people realise it isn't practical, though there are some 'noobs' who do still run around with sniper and dont use effectively. In all though you should only use sniper at LONG RANGE (out of most guns ranges)
I actually just started to play sniper recently and I like it alot. I don't have a server or set of servers that I play on alot so when I can't find a squad that works together, I just spawn sniper and guard a flag by myself. While playing the sniper kit I am definetly not useless. They are one of the best defence classes in my opinion since they dont have to be anywhere near the flag to defend it. Just drop your claymores next to the most likely enterance points and head for the hills. Then pick off the infantry as they lay down next to the flag (I <3 people who sit still while capping a flag.) or spot any armor that comes in and hope some one is paying attention.
If you care about points (I don't) then it is a bonus because you get points for the kill and for the flag defend.
As for a support or a medic being better at this than I sniper, I don't buy it. Sure the guns might be equally accurate but you don't have equal ability to zoom so you still don't get the distance of a sniper rifle. You also loose the claymores and the one head-shot kill.
On a similar note, if your computer can't handle high settings, a good resolution and 100% distance, I think the sniper kit then becomes useless because you loose the one ability that really makes the sniper stand out. (which is of course, range)
I just got my computer to run 1280x1024, all high settings, 100% distance, 8xAF and 16xAA so sniping is pretty sweet. Hooking it up to a DLP projector that I "borrow" from work on the weekends so I can play on a 10' wide screen only makes it sweeter.
(Edit) Oh yeah, and to answer your question, I see less snipers now but not a lot less. Maybe 25-50% reduction on average.
Snipers are rare/underpowered? You could have fooled me. I see plenty of snipers, and I just got off a 18-6 round using the M95 kit, and I wasn't even camping on top of the crane/TV station/any building.

Funny you should mention it. In that round, I sniped a sniper who was on the crane.. That's probably why I don't snipe from up there.
