I used to play BF2 with 256 MB of RAM. Hardware lag like none other. I upgraded to 512MB a while ago, and it runs 10 times better now.

I have 2 gigs... 3 if I had enough slots on my motherboard.

I noticed a huge diffrence when going from 1 gig to 1.5 gigs... but not so much at all when going from 1.5 to 2 gigs. It seems like I have run into another barrier with graphics now... and I cant decide if it is that the pagefile is getting extraordinarily large at 3072 megs (even though it is on a diffrent drive than the OS) or if there just isnt enough left onboard the Radeon X850 pro to make a diffrence. I can run all settings on medium, with aa and af at 4x... but the slowdown seems to come from the server on heavy fighting. I still show framerates of 40-50... but it gets laggy as hell.

Well i did a little test . I was testing 2x512mb PC-4000 @ 250mhz 2.5:2:2:5 1T and then 4x512mb PC-3200 @ 216mhz. Loading and joining a game was a pit faster with 2gb ,but FPS was not so good. So if you have a good pair of 2x512 mb rams then theyl do their job even better than 2gb of some value rams.

I thought so too, until I added the additional 512 gig of ram to 1.5 and wow, it is sweet, when I click on join, boom I join, no more shuddering, the only problems I have is due to the patches.

No point in only going part way at 1.5GB. 2GB is the sweet spot. :)

That isn't much of a comparison because the RAM wasn't the same speeds you were comparing. This is not a valid theory for 2GB RAM.

I was comparing more ram vs less ram but with higher work Mhz and Timings. Good performance memory > Value ram.

when i got the game i had 1gb. It played ok but would struggle now and again. Went up to 2 gb's and it became a completly different beast. Plays really nice and smooth now.

Had originally just 512 but added another 256 stick, might take out the 256 stick and put in another 512 stick.

511.5!!!!!!!! dunno why, it just says i have that much. runs bf2....sometimes. i will upgrade in the near future anyway
