    Any dominant mods?

Being that BF2 has now been out for almost a year, i am kinda surprised to see that there isn’t a dominant mod being played for BF2. What’s the deal, is there a mod starting to emerge from the rest and if so, which one is it. If there isn’t a dominant mod out there then what’s the deal, is BF2 just that great, interest not that high, or is everyone waiting for the right mod.

Glad to here it. I hope for your sakes and mine that your mod is the one that takes off. Its just too hard to stay loyal to a mod where only 50 people are playing. I also know all mods start with nobody and it takes a leap of faith from the players to get a mod popular. I'll check it out when it comes out. Now not to knock your mod, but is there a currently released mod where there are hundreds of people playing?

POE2 is looking seriously amazing. You just have to remember, with the more complex engine and whatnot for BF2, its going to take a tad longer for the first wave of mods to come out than it did for BF42. Seriously though, check out POE, theyve got a few trailers out, and they look mad awesome

Thanks for the advice, and no doubt the BF2 engine is no kiddy's toy. Not like the Doom days when a 4th grader could crank out a map.

I think Project Reality has a partially complete mod that even includes some custom maps (which from what I hear are astounding). You could look into that.

                Re: Any dominant mods?

Frankly, I don't see any mods (except for a few) having success.

Mods that I think will have success (only 3 IMO):

                Brickfield
                Battlefield 2rismo.
                Shattered Faith

Why? Because they're different. All the mods coming out that deal with modern combat as does vanilla BF2 are in for an uphill battle, and it's that way because of one thing, one word, stats. Why would people play your "realistic, modern, another version of BF2" mod when they have BF2 and "stats". Stats suck people in. All the medals and awards you can win make people hesitant to play something that isn't as rewarding.

Brickfield looks absolutely hilarious because it's lego's, so that should be successful.

2rismo will be the racing mod that dominates BF2 whenever it freaking comes out.

And based on the videos/teasers I saw, Shattered Faith is the cream of the crop.

US Intervention and POEII look great and add to the game, but they're just 2 military mods that look just like BF2 vanilla. Sure there is new content and maps and what have you, but I don't think that's enough to drag a few thousand people away from their stat whoring. If there were no stats, it would be a completely different story.

                  Re: Any dominant mods?

                  well put it into perspective
Halflife 2 which released an SDK before it shipped, which has the largest gaming community in the world, which is relatively easy to mod unlike bf2 has in total 4-5 mods worth playing released for it since 2004
Dystopia, Hidden, Capture the Flag, Minerva and Garry's Mod
                  that's it
name another one and i'll guarantee it is not worth even downloading
and even worse check out the numbers playing them - makes for very depressing reading
Top selling and top played games across Steam

100,000+ playing CS1.6 right now, 100 playing the far superior Dystopia

                    Re: Any dominant mods?

almanac and skeletor sum it up perfectly. The only issue i have with CS is that i don't think we can call that a mod anymore. Ill get off of CS before i break some forum rule ;-) almanac i think you are right that a BF2 mod will have to be different yet playable for a large group of people to jump on board. I didn't think about the stats either...thats almost like kryptinite to modders. It would be cool if modders could have their mod write stats to a online DB operated by the mod creator.

a Lego mod...hmmm i can see the Danes sueing them soon (Like how Mr. Lucus kills any SW mod).

Racing mod...ehh i don't know i think i would rather go buy a game with a racing engine if i want to race.

Ill take a look at Shattered Faith thanks
