Nice trailer, looking forward to your full movie.

btw, be carefull with the standard combustion effects (the explosion)
Its just too basic, change color of it, put a glow on it or a an overlay layer

          keep up the good work

Awesome, looking forward to it, however I jsut can't help feeling dissapointed when a Movie's not in Widescreen, but thats just me nitpicking, I can't think of many (if any) widescreen BF2 movies.

              Re: [Trailer] Operation: Burning Sands

Right, back to take a few comments!

Firstly, in communication with my story partner Joe, there are a lot of words that nobody heard through the making.
The initial trailer was supposed to be quick, fast filled with fast cuts, "exciting" camera angles, like any action trailer is.

THERE IS, a version 0.5 of this trailer where I took a more drama / epic approach. But which given the situation and content of the full movie, it just wasn't working half way through. So I scrubbed the storyboard and started fresh on this one. (the initial trailer being planned for release yesterday)

              Trailers are great fun!

I just had to state that on it's own line... chances are, that trailer don't have to make sense, and it was a good opportunity to look at the footage I rendered and effects I could apply without eating up production time in plot or layout.

Vegas has shined for me again in every other department. I made a few new discoveries and methods for making "action" text during the making (you may notice that every text has a slightly different animation, you may not) I had a few issues on the sound sync, which I just rushed through before I released it. I forgot to check out one thing which you may notice, but that will be fixed all in good time.

Were as I have plenty experience in Vegas, this movie is basically a first on every other technology. First time I used BL, and likewise, first time I've opened and tried to work with combustion. I say "tried" because combustion really isn't suitable for my system. It's a struggle to get particles on the screen and even more trouble editing it.
I get half a frame per second (sometimes lower) if I touch anything. So I had to settle for basic effects. Which is still better than nothing really, as I didn't want to stroll away from the core graphics of BF2. (really, if I did anything else to those particles I would be starring at my desktop  )

So, I need a much better rig and a lot more experience before I made anything with combustion again.

I whole movie can still be done in widescreen, as I was playing around when encoding this trailer. By the end of the day, 720 x 540 had the least problems.
720 x 480 also worked well but not so well when viewed in fullscreen. The trouble with widescreen is that I haven't rendered my source files in such a way that I can make it fit the screen without keeping the pixels square.
720 x 480 can be done with a pixel aspect of 0.9030. But it looks to squashed imo (like Hostile acts looked)

[strike]My next 2 projects will be in widescreen.[/strike]
Update: All projects will be in widescreen, I forgot to enable a certain checkbox

Saying that, I’m off to encode the next few mirrors. I was always keen on putting my trailer in “proper” internet trailer format, a.k.a. QuickTime.

              About the full movie…
"argh, and I have written so much already…"
I'll put this is my next post.

                Re: [Trailer] Operation: Burning Sands

Awesome work, Xalias! I'm so looking forward to the completed movie. I showed this trailer to my sister earlier today and she agreed with me that it was fantastic (she was a big fan of AirMine, too).

I particularly enjoyed seeing so much evidence of your on-going evolution as a film-maker. I remember well your having written: "I know lot of tricks, but I'm still learning all the time, which is one of the great things about being a movie maker, there's always something to make it better," and this trailer, to me, provided a wonderful glimpse into how much you've been learning since the release of "The Razzamatazz Compilation" (which was already of a great standard)!

There was so much to like about this trailer and so many memorable shots. The quality of the sound helped to ensure everything had a strong impact and I think you well-and-truly succeeded in heightening people's anticipation for the finished project.

                Well done!

                      Re: [Trailer] Operation: Burning Sands

                      Thanks again everybody.
What can I say John-Paul, I always appreciate your comments and insight everywhere on the forums. You've been great support, and I'm happy for your family members who also enjoy my works.
I aim not to disappoint you.

I can only give you a rough est. of how long the full movie is going to be via the BL footage which totals 50 minutes. I'll probably wind that down to just over 10 minutes, but everything is very uncertain at this early stage.

Production on the full movie has started now, and I have a whole free 2 weeks to work on it (Easter term) but that doesn't mean it's 24/7 editing lol
It would be great to get it done in 2 weeks, but again, can't make any promises. Only when the progress bar reaches that finalisation stage can I synchronize the release not only on set day, but on a set hour.

Like many eager people waiting for a BF2 patch, I'm sure a few of you will be quick to notice the upload before it goes public a few hours later.
