    Ultra High Settings?

I heard a while back something about Ultra High Settings on this forum. How can I enable this in the game? I just got my 7900GT couple days ago.

Some of the graphics options have ultra settings as well.

Take a look at the TweakGuide for BF2. They spend time discussing the merits of low/medium/high for all of the different video settings and recommending which one is the best balance of visual quality and performance. There are several settings that it is very difficult to see any visual difference between medium and high. I did some tests of their assertions by doing screenshots with different settings and seeing how they looked and what the fps was at that setting. In the end, I felt like their assessment was pretty much spot on. My rig will pull all highest settings at 1600X1200, but will get too hot with those settings after a long BF2 session. By turning a couple of the settings to medium I can get basically the same visual quality and not have the heat issues.

I have a X1900XTX and run everything at Ultra_High Settings. I honestly don't notice a difference between High and Ultra_High. I guess I just leave it at Ultra_High to justify my video card purchase. :)

I wish I had a good vid card... all I have is a crappy Geforce 5500 and 1280MB RAM and I can't even put the sets on medium...

Don't feel bad. I had a GeForce Ti4600 until I built my new rig. BF2 wouldn't even install on it. That's why I built the new rig.

Maybe upgrade to something in the GeForce 6000 series if cost is an issue. The 6800's are a still a good card and can be found on the cheap. I'm sure there are also good ATI candidates as well. Do an on-the-cheap upgrade for now until you can build a new system later.

the 6800gt's are pretty good, but remember you also need a cpu that wont bottleneck your vid card,or vice versa.

True. I'd like to think that regardless of CPU that the 6 series would mean better BF2 performance than any 5 series though.

What IS the highest I can put mine on? After screwing with it a bit I can put some stuff on medium, but the lighting and terrain seem to be a real drag.

Go to TweakGuides and look at their guide to optimzing for BF2. They explain every setting in detail and discuss merits of one level versus another for quality and fps. T&L are definite drags on the system and are a great candidate to lower without reducing overall quality too bad. The best way to find out what works best for your system is to sit and test. Take some screen shots and compare low to medium both visually and what the fps you get is. It will take you probably an hour or so, but you'll find the exact sweet spot for your specific system.

I have an x1900xt and run alot of settings at ultra high, I did notice there was a bit more detail in the textures, thats about it. I also didnt notice any difference inperformance going from high to ultra-high, so if you run high, it shouldn't hurt to bump it up.

If I recall correctly, TweakGuides pointed out textures as the most important setting in overall quality. With them on high I can clearly see the number stamp on the engy shotgun. On medium it is very pixelated.
