Danged Microphone

I have a headset/mic and system that works just fine with Ventrilo and Teamspeak. However, when I use it with BF2, I cannot get it to work. The hard part is that I have the Windows controls in the system tray, the surround sound software that came with the main board and BF2 riding on top of that as below:

BF2 (VOIP enabled. Microphone does not work, I can hear others on VOIP though.)
Surround Sound Software (All maxxed with sound boost)
Windows Volume Controls (All maxxed with boost set)
Asus P5WD2 Socket 775 Premium Main board

I cannot select the Mic boost within the game - it is dimmed out. Any tips for tweaking the game so I can use the VOIP as intended?

I have always had issues with VOIP. You have to speak about twice as loudly to get them to hear you at the same level as you would on TS/Vent. If you could somehow turn up your outbound, this may help you.
