To ping or not to ping

    Yeah I know, dumb title...

I'm bewildered over my sudden problems with r-e-a-l-l-y high ping rates.
First the facts. I have a low to mediocre processor/graphics card (AMD 2300 with a GForce 5700 card. But, with graphics settings on low, I've been able to play fine on servers with pings in the low to mid 100's range (usually 125 to 141 or more). Not pretty, but it worked.
I uninstalled the game for a few days to do some work, came back and re-installed, logged in and discovered they had issued the new patch. I logged of, downloaded the patch, intalled it, went back online and found all the servers had pings starting in the 300's and going up into the teens. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything, (and yes, I install the patch after the game installations) but nothing changes those horrendous (that's really bad) pings.
I'm at a loss. I use dsl rated at 1500 kps. I'm left with singleplayer... AAAhhrrggg! Please... Any ideas???

yeh i get that the odd time, when i refresh the server page, but generally they will drop to below 100 again, localized servers within your own country will give lower pings (duh) but you should be able to play fine.

OK... that's a new one on me. Didn't know that updating PB made a difference; but I'll definitly give it a shot.

Thanks you guys for your input.

Not saying it is definately your problem, but it is nearly always advised on high ping posts http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php

Iv got this prob too, my ping was around 20-30 on my fav 2 servers that i always play on, now its between 150 and 200 and unplayable, i updated my PB thing off that site ^^^, but still the same. Never had so many random problems with a game.

              2 main troubleshooting methods

              1. update punkbuster manually
              2. rename the bf2 .exe (don't know why this works but it does :|)

Check your firewall, it might be restricting BF2 to access the web. Happened to me before
